So there is availability at Carribean Beach...........

I was thinking about staying at POR but to be honest I wasn't struck by either POR or POFQ from looking at the pictures accept perhaps the Mansions at POR. I know I've been spoilt by the Deluxes.

Paul insists on staying on site - which I think is silly when we could stay along the Plaza in 4 star for $215 a night which is what the moderates would cost.

But the CBR does look tempting....if I go for this please can I have suggestions as to which building is better.

Many thanks as always :)

Hi Sam,

We've stayed at both POR (was Dixie at the time), and CBR. We stayed in Jamaica, building 44 at CBR, and at Magnolia Terrace in POR - I forget the exact building number here.

Of the two, i'd give a slight preference to POR, but only just - both resorts were great, and the CBR beach hammocks were wonderful to relax in. Something about the atmosphere at POR just made it seem a little more upmarket though - can't really put my finger on it.

If you do choose CBR, i'd avoid Trinidad - particularly South, as this is a long way from Old Port Royale. Jamaica and Aruba both connect to OPR via Parrot Cay Island - this is a lovely spot to sit for a few minutes with your morning tea or coffee, watching the turtles, etc.

Do you have annual passes or anything else that might get you a discount on rooms at Disney ?

Yup! Another vote for Jamaica at CBR, but Aruba would be just as good as it's right next door. It's about a 5 minute walk across the footbridge to OPR via Parrot Cay - and a very pleasant walk it is too :) So...new and improved foodcourt isn't far away, but you have a nice and peaceful 'village' away from the main pool (but with all the benefits of the quiet pool)

Discounts are not available for arrivals after 20th to 31 December so we could discount for 1st and 2nd Jan but that would have to be a separate reservation - too much hassle so we're gonna just stick with the rack rate.

I'm gonna ask for Jamaica or Aruba then.

Thanks for concurring Penny :)

Congratulations Sam - i'm sure it's going to be wonderful to spend New Year in the World. I'm sure you'll love CBR - listening to that Calypso music by the pool is great.

Have you figured out where you'll spend New Year's Eve yet ?

Peebee

Well Shirley mentioned going all around EPCOT World SHowcase for each N Year which I thought would be a good idea. Otherwise nope haven't really thought that far ahead LOL :), just realised it's not that far ahead at all.......oh good grief ;)

we really loved CBR - it is very beautiful and romantic. i didn't think it was over $200 a night though - we paid less than that for the Animal Kingdom Lodge - but I guess Christmas is high season.

Bev

Bev excluding tax all moderate rooms over Peak Season, which Christmas is, are $194 not including tax for a standard room, no discounts at all are available as it is blacked out for them. You can get discounts from 1st Jan onwards.

We've booked a King room which works out at $243 per night inlcuding tax... you pay the same for a King room as you would a water view room this is across the board at all the moderates.

I'm paying $165 per night including tax for my Savannah Room at AKL only 2 weeks before in December so I know what you mean.

Hi Sam - I agree with Aruba or Jamaica if you don't mind crossing the bridge to Port Royale - we enjoyed this walk. Jamaica has the edge for me as I prefer the colour scheme LOL!!! Martinique is really popular because of it's proximity to Port Royale so tends to be the busiest 'village'. Martinique or Trinidad North are either side of Port Royale.

Thanks Shirley - I've requested Jamaica. I showed Paul the pictures last night and he agreed with me that that was the resort for us. So I'm mighty pleased.

I just have so much to do now :(

at $243 per night
Ouch! I would be wanting the Boardwalk for that!

still, you will be having an amazing New Year and it is a beautiful resort, you will really enjoy it.

I would suggest requesting a corner room - I think the King rooms tend to be anyway, we had one overlooking the quiet pool and it was lovely. the corner rooms have an extra window which makes them feel much lighter and more spacious. (Well, I haven't been in a normal room, but it did feel light and spacious!)

Bev

Yup Bev, I checked and the King rooms are always corner rooms in CBR.

LOL the fact that this was a last minute holiday I don't mind spending the money especially as we are going to be staying there Peak season, it's the price you pay and I'm just happy to be going, I won't tell you what we paid for the flights - you'd die LOL :) I'm just glad to be going so that Paul and I are together in the "world" .......very romantic ;)

Sam,

I couldn't give any advice as I've never stayed onsite but it sounds wonderful what you've booked:Pinkbounc

Another trip Sam - what are you like:)

We stayed at CBR in 2000 in the Martinique area which was lovely and close to OPR. It is a great resort and those hammocks are wonderful!

Kaylee

Hey Kaylee - it's great isn't it ! Now why we don't fork out the money for DVC god only knows;)

CBR does sound great for a mod and the rooms are bigger than the other mods.

Bye for now :)
