What would you do?

If you had the option to add on points at the same resort, or a new one, which would you chose?

It really depends on your goals. I own at BLT and just added on at AKV. I wanted home resort status at AKV so adding on there only made sense. Currently there is one other resort that I would like to have as a home resort, but I probably won't add on there, but by resale eventually.

Totally agree!! We own at BW and Saratoga and use the points for each differently!! If you are looking to stay in home resort with additional pts then buy where you want to stay especially if it is a popular DVC time!

I also agree - it depends on why you are adding on and perhaps how much you are adding on. If there is another resort you want the 11 month booking window at b/c you'd prefer to stay there then I'd consider another resort. If you are just looking for more points and like your home resort or have no particular preference then I'd say just add on at your home resort.

Also, if you are only adding on a small amount that alone won't allow you to book the stay you wish at the second resort then I'd add on at my home resort.

We were faced with this same dilemma, and at the time we chose to add on at the same resort so we could have all points available for a GV at the same time. Of course, at that time there were only two resorts to choose from, and we LOVED our OKW home and weren't too excited about BWV, so it was a no-brainer. We have, however added on since then at a different resort (AKV) to get the 11 month booking window there.

To be honest, we love all the resorts, and have a goal of eventually staying at all of them. Our home resort is SSR, so I'm trying to decide on whether or not to add the points on there, or go with BLT. Right now, we're only adding on a small number of points (50) because we've found that what we have now as far as number of points just isn't quite enough. Right now, I'm leaning with just adding on to SSR so that there's not as much confusion with keeping the points seperate. The only downfall to going with SSR instead of BLT is that the ownership is for 6 years less. My DH and I were talking about it, and we thought it would be neat to have an interest in 2 different resorts, but just weren't sure if it would really be worth it in the long run. As far as where we stay, I usually decide before hand where we want to go, but if for some reason we had to change and stay elsewhere, that would be okay, too. We both love Disney and we don't think we can go wrong with any of their resorts.

If you are only adding on 50 points, I'd add on at SSR (your original resort). Even if you are in your 20's, that extra 6 years isn't much. We own 380 points at OKW and 69 at AKV. The AKV contract goes 16 years longer than the OKW one, but for us, it really doesn't matter, since we will be in our mid 90's when the earliest one expires.

I would addon at BLT.... with banking and borrowing you would be able to have up to 150 pts to use for a trip... you would have the extra years, 11 month booking window and be really close to MK... but keep in mind that pts per night are much higher than the other DVC resorts and would get fewer nights for your pts if you were to book at BLT.....and you also would be in the 7 month booking window if combining pts from two resorts

Plus if you ever decided to sell... small resale contracts go pretty quick and generally for more $ per pt. .

This is us except the other way around. We started out at Ak and now are going to buy at OKW. We have stayed at all of the resorts except the coastal ones. My wife loves WV the best with AK and OKW tied for seond but we know in order to stay at a OKW Grande Villa we will probably need the 11 month advantage. We have been able to get rooms at all resorts when we wanted, even BC/BW during Food and Wine, at 7 months. So its off to get some OKW because we love the access, canal/boats, and slowwwwwww feelings we get there.

So with all that said and like others have said, "buy where you love to stay".

The real advantage of having a second home resort is to book reservations before the 7 month mark. Unless you want to stay in a studio for only a couple of nights, with 50 points you would need to bank and possibly borrow in order to use these 50 points at BLT and get the home resort advantage. Does that suit your needs for these 50 points? Or do you plan on using them at SSR or other DVC resorts? If so then you won't be able to use BLT points until the 7 month mark to make reservations at any other resort.

We bought a 50 point contract last year but added on at BLT where already have an 160 point contract. We realized that staying at BLT takes a lot more points for week than other DVC resorts.

Good luck and have fun with your new points when you decide where to buy!

OK, so you are in the same situation as us. We had 120 points at SSR, and we really like to move around and stay at the different DVC resorts. We added on another 25 point contract at SSR just a month ago, so that we could do 2 stays a year, at any resort. We did our 1st thru resale and second through DVC so that we could get the same UY.

As previous post said, adding on at another resort really depends on if you want to stay there, and be able to book at the 11 month window. With 50 points at BLT, you can book there at the 11 month window, for only 50 points worth, and borrow/bank 50 points from BLT contract as well. Thus, you can't use SSR points at BLT at the 11 month window. So, you could reserve 1,2,or 3 days at BLT (depending on the view, season, and type of room), and then hope to add on extra days there at the 7 month window, or do a split stay. But, if you really don't have a preference what resort you stay or don't plan on visiting during peak times where you need the 11 month window, then puchasing UY and cheapest cost makes the most sense (cents).

From what you said, especially since you are finding yourself a bit short for your current stays, I'd add on at your current SSR rather than BLT.

If you had a definite desire to stay at BLT or knew that you'd be adding on more there later then I'd do the BLT but I wouldn't do it just to supplement with a few more points.

I agree, if you are already short I would cover that gap before I created any new ones. Banking and Borrowing only takes you so far and in theory it works better than in practice.

My biggest booking anxiety comes when I invite someone and need to book the larger units. These are the times I need the 11 month window and I need all my points to be available at 11 months, because we are normally travelling at peak WDW times or peak DVC times. That's when I regret my small BWV contracts the most.

I dont have enough to book more than a 1 bed at a time at BWV, so I end up using those points to fill out other reservations at 7 months and not as intended for the 3 year scenario.

If I could do it over again, I would have just added on more BCV points for the ability to book multiple units there at the 11 month window.

We'd add on to one of our two home resorts, AKV or BWV. I really want to, but it would be add on #5 and DH is NOT on board with this one!

Thank you all very much for your advice and the good points that everyone mentioned. I think I've decided that between the number of points that we're adding on being so small, and for the sake of keeping things simple that we're just going to add on to SSR.

Thank you for this thread, as I have been debating the same thing... how lucky we are to have such a decision! :)

I think that is the smart choice, that will give you more options (THV or larger accomadations) at SSR at 11 months. We bought at BLT in Feb (160 pnt) and did a add on at SSR resale (160) because it was such a great deal and same UY and we really wanted to do every other year at each resort (cannot wait to book THV). You will not be sorry!
