Gosh, you are getting great rates if you can fly 9 people, rent a car and car seats for around 2000!!!!

We drive about 1000 miles each way and our costs were no were near $1200 and we stayed overnight. (I did see that you would have 2 vans).

We really enjoy driving and having a car there!

I would love to know how much you are paying for each item. I would think a great deal would be $200 per person for flight, and $500 for each van, which would be $2,800 plus taxes and fees and stuff.

We are just kind of figuring around $200 per person to fly and $400 per rental vehicle. I know this is more than $2000, that's why I had the plus sign behind it. In real numbers it is more like $3000 or more with 2 rental vans.

I think the more we reason it out and we take a vote, we will just fly. It will be better for all of us. My brother-in-law is not the most patient of person, so him in a car for 20+ hours would not be pretty, especially after the kids start getting cranky from being stuck in their seat for that long.

One thing (besides all of your help) that helped us came to that decision was this past weekend my mother and I took a one day trip to our cabin to close it for the season. Now this is only 200 miles each way and just that little bit wiped us out. We were totally useless the next day. I can't imagine how tired we would be being in the car 3 times that amount. That doesn't sound like a fun vacation at all.
