We just closed on a BCV resale, should be in the Disney system by Wednesday or Thursday. With our purchase we have 142 pts that must be used by 3/1. We also want to go in October & December this year. Options:

1) go for a long weekend (1 bedroom or 2 bedroom) in late February - though don't really want to spend $1300 on airfare for the 5 of us for "just" a long weekend.

2) go for a full week in late Feb - which would eliminate one of the trips later in the year (would have to borrow points & don't want to rent points)

3) try to rent out the 142 points, if they don't get rented, just lose them...

Obviously we've got the itch to get to our new "home", especially since we've never been inside a DVC resort (or stayed on-site for that matter)

Thoughts?

Exceptions can be made when you purchase this close to banking deadlines!!

I would DEFINITELY be calling my guide to allow me to bank ALL points to make ressies for my Oct/Dec trip!!

NO doubt about it!!! ::yes:: ::yes::

Obviously your choice, but I'd go for it. Why buy a new car and leave it in the garage for a special trip? With a DVC membership, WDW/Orlando will become something different for you anyway so why not start that journey of discovering just how you will use your DVC membership?? Good luck whatever you do and congrats on your purchase!!

Since the OP purchased via resale, I do not think a banking exception will be made.

Consider making a "late deposit" to II - there are some restrictions on when you can make a reservation (59 days or less from the date of travel), but it is a way to "extend" the life of those 142 points you really can't /don't want to use before 3/1/2006. If you are able to travel on relatively short notice and in "Off seasons", you might be able to go somewhere quite nice with those 142 points. You might have to borrow a few to get to the number required for the deposit, though - depending on what size accomodations you would need.

Once you are in the DVC system, you can call MS and see if this is a possibility for you.

Best wishes -

Very tough choice... personally, I'd try to go for a week in February. However, if that wasn't possible, I might try renting them out at a very discounted rate. Or, I would contact MS and see about donating them to charity (not sure exactly how that works, but could help on taxes next year). Then of course there is always the II exchange stuff, which I am also not familiar with but could be a way of extending the life of your points and allow you to go somewhere else.

Do what you can to keep these from simply going to waste.

Good luck!

If you do need to rent out at a late discounted rate - don't worry, the points will go. I rented out to another member at something like a month out, and i rented those points within an hour of posting them on the dvc board. And i am in the uk, which i worried might have made it harder to rent - but it didn't. Don't worry - there's a lot of people wanting to rent out there.

Well first I would see if they could be banked. If so then I would go that route.

If not then I would probably take the week long trip in Feb and go again in either of the months you choose. When you can though, I would book that Oct or Dec ASAP because it might be hard to get that time.

My 3rd choice would be to rent or transfer them out.
