Hi,
I was just wondering how many peopl get extra jobs to go on their disney trip???Next year for christmas i want to take my family back so i have decided that i'm going to get a full time job, i'm a housewife with a part time job at the moment....My husband has a good job but at the same time i would like to contribuite finace wise....Just wondering if there is other people out here that, work the over time, get a job to help out spouse, or even get a second job....I guess i'm addicted to WDW and really want to go back so do my kids....Is there other people that would do extra work to get to disney????HAPPY HOLIDAYS

I have been putting all my extra spare change into a "disney fund" jar. It's a big Absopure water bottle. And, I get mileage checks from work every month...that all goes to my disney fund. I set up an ING savings account and put all of my mileage money or ebay earnings into that to earn the 2.25% interest rate.

I work full time and go to school part time so I don't have time for another job but I do babysit every once in a while or pick up extra work (typing papers for college students, cleaning houses, etc.) when I have time and all the money I earn from that goes into the disney fund.

This year my Boyfriend and I went with $1000 saved to pay for the trip...I've already saved more than that for next years trip and we just got back in December...I can't wait!

I think it's definitly worth it!

In addition to my two high school kids, I still have 2 little ones, so working is out for me right now. Here is what I do:
1.) Make a room only reservation and pay the deposit.
2.) Clip coupons and shop bonus buys and sales.
3.) When the cashier hands me my receipt and tells me my total savings, I put that exact amount of money aside for my trip
4.) Every month I mail a check for the total "saved" amount to WDW.

Vacation paid for. :earboy2:

I've always work extra hours, yard sales..odd jobs all for spending 5-7 days in orlando,my friends think Im crazy for doing this but they havent been smitten with the "magic" . Sometimes I think is it all worth it,YOU BET!! everyone should visit aleast once ,its truley a remarkable place.

Thanks for all your input.....You all gave some great idea's....I'm actually going to try some of these idea's with my family....I was just wondering if there was others out here like me trying to get back to disney....Thanks

There's no way I would get another job or go from part-time to full-time just to go to Disney! I would rather be home with my family more here than leave them to go to work to take them to Disney. Maybe to help pay for their college education, but not something as trivial as a Disney trip. This summer we will be camping as our vacation, and we'll have a wonderful time.

Here is what I am doing so we can go next year.

1. started saving my change. All of it goes in there. Well not dimes
2. all dimes go into a wine bottle. I want to see how many dimes the bottle can hold.
3. all pinecone checks get cashed and I get a roll of dimes for the wine bottle.
4. child suport checks get cashed and turned into change. Mind you my checks are small 3 to 5 dollars. Another story
5. Put 1,000 in my flex medical plan. -- plan on pulling out what I have used in Nov. for disney.
6. Every load of laundry I hang to dry... that is 1.00 I don't have to put into the dryer...into the change bank it goes.

I am sure I will come up with more as I work through it. I am waiting for new packages to come out. It might be worth it to me with the dining plan. Since I have a teenager who can eat.

When my kids were small, I did not take a job and we did without WDW(and a lot of other things). My kids never felt deprived, because we just never mentioned it. It was more important to do family things that we could afford, like camping, picnics or trips to the beach where we have family (free!) Now that they are older, working is easier and I work part-time from my home. We took our kids to WDW two years ago when they were 15, 8 & 6 and they LOVED IT!

I would not go into debt just for a vacation, but I do save money specifically for Disney. We have a separate account for our trip and every bonus or unexpected check go into it.I also save change throught out the year--that account has $80 in it. :earseek: When we can get a sitter, we are going to have ourselves a "parent's-only" trip.

Cathy--mom to John, Eleni, and Christian

I dont know that I would specifically work an extra job all year long with my kids just because they are VERY active in sports and extracurricular activities and I go to every one of their games :earseek: I personally believe that its best to keep my kids active so they dont have time to sit around the house and sit in front of a tv and it keeps them out of trouble too.. However I would work an extra part time job throughout the holiday time to make extra money for DW.. That would be only a few months and in the winter months their activities lessen which would give me some time to do this.. Some things that can be done to save some money is saving change (everyone does this but you'd be amazed at how much you can save and you never even notice missing it), clipping coupons and putting the savings into your change.. I do pinecone research and put that money into my change savings, do ebay every few months when you clean out your home and take that money and put it into your savings, do a yard sale once a year and put that money into the savings, I do a few of the click to earn giftcertificate sites.. I am usually able to cash out a few times a year and that normally brings in about $100 a year in gift certificates.. I try to get walmart ones so that I can use them there and get things I need for our vacation that I would have bought out of my own money.. I also utilize my healthcare spending acct.. There are so many things that can be done...

I am a college student and every Jan we go, once school gets out I pick up a bunch of shifts at the restuarant I work at. And that pays for my trip with extra money for later. Right now the only day I have off until my trip on Jan 2 is Xmas day because we are closed. But if I didn't work alot I would spend all my money so it works out

I have 2 small children so I can't get an outside job, but I consider saving money to be my job. Things I do to get us to Disney include but are not limited to: serious couponing, rebating, rewards programs, surveys, mystery shopping, test drives, etc. Combining these things with an overall frugal lifestyle (we don't eat out or spend money on entertainment very often) gets us to Disney. It's a matter of priorities--we'd rather have one really memorable trip a year then blow alot of money doing small things that we'll forget about by the next week.

I have three small children so I consider that to be my most important job so I don't work outside the home. However I do lots of things that make it easier to go to Disney. I plan a year ahead, make a deposit and then each month treat it like an ongoing bill and send a set amount for the hotel reservations. We buy APs so we can get two year's trip in one price, we save change religiously, and we buy Disney dollars every week. If we have a yard sale or something like that it would go directly to the Disney fund. We also have our relatives give us Disney dollars for Christmas, birthdays etc.

I was just talking to my co-worker about this. I work a split shift 8-1 then 4-9pm. It gets tiring and I don't get to spend much time with my 2 boys. Yes I could just work one shift and still pay my bills but then I couldn't afford Disney. So I choose to work full time for Disney.
Spending time with my boys is very important to me and they get me Fri-Sun. Also when school is out for the summer I do drop down to just working the evening shift so I can be home with them during the day.

Hi,
I totally agree with spending family time together because that is very important where or not you do it free or spend money....I wasn't saying take away the time that you spend with your children to get a job...I was just curious how other people make some extra money to get to disney i just used getting a job for an example....
My boys are ages 13 and 6 so when they go to school i'm at home alone...So i thought maybe if i got a job during the day while they are at school i could make that extra to go to disney....I hardly work weekends but if i do and my boys have something going on i bring it up to my boss, with out a doubt they work it out for me....Both of my boys are very active as well from football, soccer, basketball, and boy scouts....I go to every game and every meeting.....Everyone knows that my children come first even my part time job boss...
So i wasn't making this thread into an arguement to choose whether or not you should pick making money for a disney trip or spending time with the family... I surely never said anything about going into debt for any trip because i certainly wouldn't...
I just wanted to here how everyone else saves vacation money or if they do any extra's to save????Thanks

Work second shift, Save change, have sons save tooth fairly money etc so they can buy whatever they want at Disney, and take my lunch to work.

I usually work enough Overtime to pay for any vacation, that we take. I work third shift, so as far as my kids are concerned, they get me the same amount of hours, as they would anyway. I'm just a little more tired, and the house gets a little more messy.

My husband took on a position, with my kid's school, as the Ohio reads coordinator. It's still overtime, but since the kids see him at school one day/week, they actually see more of him.

This upcoming trip, we are considering it as part of Christmas. my girls are up to that. Santa, will still come, but not as many gifts to/from each other.

We also usually have season passes to our local theme park, Kings Island, but on Disney years do not get them.

I'm going to try to keep going out to eat, or ordering pizza to a minimum. Hopefully this will work. We'll have to see. I think the entire family will fail at this one

My kids also love disney dollars. They always save their own $$

This is my first year saving for Disney. I started saving back in July 2004 using some of the tips from the DIS Rewards Board. I joined several survey sites and joined a few paid to read e-mail sites.

I also play in a weekly poker game ($20 per week). Any money I have left each week from the $20...whether I win, break even, lose a little, etc....I put into my Disney fund.

I have $1600 saved for our next trip in June....need to save another $900 as we plan to go for 8 Days.....

Last year I used part of my tax refund. Thanks to the tax cuts and the extra money for the child tax credit, my refund went up about $800. This year, I'm trying to save and not have to use the tax refund.

Being an IT guy....it's easy to do surveys and get paid good money.....

Also....I give my 5 year old son a weekly allowance. My son also takes Christmas money and puts it into his Disney savings. Birthday money goes to his 529 college savings. He has $95 saved already for Disney....he wants to eat breakfast with Donald this year.

We save change as well.....

D

Sell my Husband....... Do I hear $1 ? Going Once Going twice Sold for $1!!!!!!!

Just kidding! I happen to love the guy, he's just not a Disney fan Yet! But I'm working on him!!!
