During Katrina, we live in Broward County, our deceased neighbors shed which was not lashed down and is old and rusty and huge was pushed over our fence and into our yard. His family and friends are over there now removing the stuff that was in the shed so they know full well the shed is in our yard upside down. Not one person has come over and asked if we need help dismantling the behemoth. Dh is not the least bit happy because he doesnt think we should have to bear the brunt of dismantling it and possibly getting hurt on the jagged rusty metal. Just opinions but should we just dismantle it outselves and shut up about it or should we shove it back over the fence and let them deal with it? Dh wants to do the latter if they do not offer to help by tonight.

I would go out and ask them about the shed while they are out there.

I would go over and ask them when and what they plan on doing with the shed.
If you have to remove it, I would bill them for it.

I would go over and ask when they were going to be able to get the shed and to let you know when and around what time and y'all may be able to assist them in the moving or dismantiling it.

Definitely go over there and ask them when they will need access to your yard to remove the shed. Don't ask "if" they are going to do it, just politely ask when. They must know it isn't in the yard anymore since they have been removing the contents left from the shed today.

If they refuse altogether then I'd tell them that it is a hazard to your ___ (fill in the blank, like kids, pets, etc.) and that you will be hiring someone at their expense to remove it.

I just went out there to see if they were outside. The wife, who didnt live with him yet were not divorced, looked over at me, waved and said HI and walked into the backyard. I was totally stunned into silence that she didnt say word one to me about it. Dh is worried about an arguement ensuing if we go over there. He is concerned that they are going to say that since it is now on our property that it is now our problem not theirs.

Well I went out there again and they did say something to me about it. They said they would get someone to remove it and asked when we needed to have it done. I said today since we have young kids 7 and 11. They are going over now to get the man who will help dismantle it. I told them dh would help and they were greatful. They are just going to take it apart and put it back over the fence back into his backyard until they can get rid of it on bulk pickup day.

Glad you are getting this resolved, it was very nice of Dh to offer to help.
Did your home sustain any damage from the storm?

Thankfully no thats the only thing that happened was the shed came over the fence. It pushed our fence out a bit but dh just pushed it back. We were EXTREMELY lucky and we are so very greatful for that. We even kept power through the whole thing which shocked everyone in the neighborhood because we are usually the first to go out. Most of the neighborhoods around us are completely without power. I will tell you I was scared when that wind was howling and the rain was coming down. If this is what a CAT 1 is like I dont want to see anything stronger. YIKES. We got the outskirts of Andrew when it came through and even through we got a few 90 mph gusts up here it didnt seem to go on as long as this did. I dont remember being as frightened. Of course that was before kids and I was a lot younger then LOL.
