I was going to use an outside company to rent my points so that I could pay cash for my upcoming cruise. Now that Disney has changed some rules they will no longer do small point rentals. I want to rent out points but they are 2011 points. I need the $$ now before the cruise goes up in price. Therefore I would have to borrow those points to 2010. I do not want to do that because if the person I rent to is untrustworthy then I will totally mess up everything because I will not have the points or the cruise. If they were current use year points then I would be OK with renting, but this is really scary when you are looking at borrowing.. If you were going to do this..what kind of payment plan would you have? Would you even attempt to rent these points? Should I give up on this whole idea... I am so frustrated and disappointed.. To sail using points is 78 points more than renting out the points..:sad2:

Based upon your concerns, you may not make a happy landlord. Renting out your points can be a lot of work and a headache if you get the wrong renter.

As you have found out, using points to book a cruse is a poor use of points. Disney has designed this into their business model to take advantage of members that don't know any better, or don't mind paying for the convenience.

You could certainly try renting your points on our Rent/Trade board, if you wish. I would absolutely recommend a contract spelling out specific payment due dates that would give you time to attempt to re-rent the reservation if your client backs out for some reason.

You state that using the points for the cruise is 78 points more than renting out the points, but that depends entirely on on the price you are able to get for your point rental.

In the current economy, we are seeing lower "per point" rental prices than in previous years.

But personally, I would first try to rent to people I know...friends/family/co-workers etc. If none seem interested, then I'd post on the boards, or simply use the 78 points for the cruise and avoid having the rental "hassle."
