What would you do regarding tickets from previous family vacation?

I have 2 adults tickets from a previous family vacation. On the back of the ticket it says "LASTNAME party". I don't know if full names were associated with them. Each has 1-day left out of an original 6-day hopper pass with plus pack, never expires. This was back in 1999. Disney says that previous unused days can be credited towards a new ticket purchase. (I'm not sure the details of this or what the restrictions are - I emailed Disney.) Anyhow, my mom tells me she is pretty sure there is a day left on each ticket because she remember a day we went to water park instead and didn't make it to a regular park. Should I chance it and go to the gate to exchange it for a ticket for my trip... meaning I would wait until I get to the gate to do all this. But I could potentially save money.... I also booked a vacation package, so I'd have to switch to a room only deal. Also, do you think they would question why I have two adult tickets if I try to use them both for the purchase of one ticket?? I guess I'd have to get two tickets right? My DH has a different last name, but I was thinking if they bought the tix under one name they probably just put that name on all the tickets without asking the other people in the family, right?

I was wondering would you think it's worth the trouble of cancelling my existin g package, switching to room only, going to the gate with these 1999 tickets?

I wouldn't put the old pass towards the purchase of a new one. I believe it wouldn't be cost effective. I would be tempted to change to a room only reservation, get MYW passes that meet you needs, minus a day and you could use the old pass. But, with the MYW passes so much cheaper than the park hopper passes, I'm not sure that theory still stands. I'm sure there are others out there that will be able to correct me if I'm wrong. I tend to try not to do packages in any event. I would rather pick and choose exactly what I need and pay accordingly.

I emailed back to ask the details of this... Because we'd want a 4-day non hopper, expires ticket with plus options... So I have no clue if a 1-day for a hopper, non-expire ticket can apply... If they have some kind of monetary equivalence type of thing or if they do an even exchange (i.e. this 1 day would be a MYW 1-day hopper, non expire ticket).. I'm sure someone else has exchanged tickets before.

Of course people have exchanged tickets before, but whether or not you can do it and whether or not its a good value are two different things. You might find yourself better off using the existing tickets "as is" and purchasing a shorter MYW ticket than you would be by trading in the remaining value on the current tickets towards a longer-length MYW. There's probably not that much of a monetary difference, but find that out first. It could be worth it to switch your tickets and package.

As for the mechanics of trading them in, tickets are a one-to-one exchange. You can't use your two remaining tickets towards the cost of one new one.

Are you sure about this? A few years ago I think we were able to combine 3 or 4 old,old tickets and apply them to 2 new Park Hoppers.

Yes, I'm sure. The stated policy is one-for-one exchange. Really old tickets have occasionally been "bundled" to use in exchanges because of their relatively small worth against current ticket prices. But it's pretty rare to find someone who will bend that rule.

Isn't just using the tickets "as is" the easiest thing to do? Once you know there is a day available just use that ticket in the turnstile on the day you want to go. You can find out exactly what is available on the tickets at guest relations.

If you apply the day(s) available on the ticket you have to a new ticket don't they only apply the dollar value, not the "time" (they don't transfer "a day" they apply the dollar value of 1-day at the time the ticket was purchased to the new ticket?)?

I thought this was how it worked with old tickets. Please correct me if I am wrong because I will be dealing with this very issue in October.

I did some calculations and assuming it's an even trade...meaning each ticket (1-day hopper left) is good for a 1-day hopper ticket , or even if we just used them as is.. either way same thing... .I would need 2 3-day tickets with plus (which gives us 2 pluses even though we plan to do 3 things)... based on regular disney ticket prices (with tax):

2 4-day with plus options = $489.94
2 3-day with plus options = $460.08
Difference = $29.86

So if we traded in our 1-day on each adult ticket for a 1-day ticket (even exchange) and purchased 2 other 3-day tickets with plus, we'd save only $29.86. I also checked ticketmania, and based on their costs the savings would be $16.

Furthermore, like I said we want to do 3 pluses, so we'd probably just buy tix for PI since they are the cheapest through ticketmania ($16 each)= another $32...

So in the end it wouldn't save us at all - actually cost us more $$$ based on activities we actually want to do....

Now if two separate tickets can be traded for one 2-day ticket that is another story.... that might actually save a little bit of money... But it appears that's not possible...

I think I'm going to take these with me and just go to Guest Services and inquire for sure about what days are left... But then I'm not sure I'd trade them... maybe just for information and see if my other family members are going to disney.

Last year I happened to find some old park hopper tickets with no expiration.We used them.2 of the tickets were kept by the machine -I guess the days were used up.I do have one left with I think 1 more day on it.We are planning to use it this summer.I really don't anticipate a problem.

Should you use old tickets as is?

If the old tickets are partially used, it ranges from close-call to trading-is-better.

1. First price out your ticket needs without using the old tickets.

2. Then price out your new ticket needs with using old tickets.

3. Finally price out your new ticket needs without using old tickets but where the new tickets covering your entire vacation are non-expiring and have all the attributes of the old tickets.

Partially used tickets can only be traded in by using method 3.

If you use the old tickets as-is you will still get all of the days out of them but you may find that you only save three dollars (difference between method 2 and method 1).

Better bargains can only be had by planning future vacations now:

1a. Don't use the old tickets, saving them for a day tripper further off in the future,

4. Trade up to ten day non-expiring tickets.

5. Keep the old tickets separate and buy ten day non-expiring tickets.

Old hopper plus tickets may be worth more than you think. If on a day you visited only water parks and Pleasure Island, a park day was not consumed.

Yes... originally they cost $245... $40.83 per day... but these had the 3 plus visits (all used) so I'm not sure if that plays a part in the cost...

Nope. Used or not, plusses carry NO value for getting a credit or upgrading your tickets.

So each day is still a $40.83 value.

You can find out how many days are left on each ticket and either use them or sell them on ebay. You can get at least $60 for a one day park hopper on ebay, usually. If there are plusses still on the tickets, I would really try to use those on your visit.

In general, an older ticket is better used for the number of days left on it. I wasn't sure of the # of days remaining, so we went to the ticket place in DTD and they told me what was remaining before we went to the parks.

What was paid for the tickets was $245. What I want to know is - if this was a hopper ticket, no expiration, can the 1 day cost of $40 be applied to a new ticket with no hopping, expires in 14 days type ticket?

We have never been required to show ID? I don't think they are supposed to be transferable though, and parkhoppers do come up for sale on ebay all the time? Anyone else ever show ID?
