What would you do if your kids couldn't nap because of noise??

I was just reading this thread on the resorts board
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=899529

and the OP mentioned tree trimming (8 am to 4 pm daily for ~a week) disturbing their rest. There were other issues as well, but that one disturbed me.

A lot of posters were not supportive of this complaint, saying that landscaping has to be done sometime, but I think it's legit! I can't imagine a trip where my kids (2/4) couldn't take a rest during the day. The op was travelling with a 2 year old, and some folks with medical problems.

So what would you have done? :)

I always-Always ask for a room on the top floor, simply to minimize the noise. I think alot of it depends on your resort. But I would think requesting a room facing away from any sculpture gardens, bus routes, and pools, should do the trick. The only time noise has been a problem was on our last trip, we over looked the pool, from the top floor and there was some teen group staying at the resort who was at the pool after hours. One call to the desk and the problem was solved.

DS2 started sleeping with a portable fan in his room as a baby since his room was at the top of the stairs in our 2 story foyer and he could always hear Daddy talking at night. As a result, we pack the portable fan whenever we go somewhere so he still has the white noise in the background.
PS: I used this tip in college for studying in the dorm and it really does help with the noise outside your room.
Good luck!!

I would get your children used to noise before you go to WDW. When my kids were small and taking naps I ran the vacuum, cut the grass so they learned to sleep through the noise.

We take a portable fan. I bought one a few years ago, that is desk fan. It is small, plastic, and lightweight. It is used only for trips. I bought it for this reason. DH has to sleep with a fan, so I take it for him. But it is really good for covering up noises.

Another thing I have done, is run the air conditioner all night. Just ask for extra blankets before.

Another thing is to take a portable cd player, and pick up a "sounds" CD. You can usually find rain, surf or wind and others. Don't get any that would disturb, like thunderstorms. Listen to it first, then start using it in the room when the kids are napping. Then they will be used to the "noise" when you go.

This had been used since birth just like the fans.
It is a small round machine that has soothing sounds.. like rain, birds, etc.
and we use the 'fan' sound. It helps at Disney, Home with activity daily,
and even use it in the van for long trips. - It is called Nature Soothing Sounds. It can be adjusted with volume and be plugged in or used battery.

It has been a life saver... :cool1:

We turn on the Disney cartoons, pull the curtains and turn out the lights. It's quiet time at that point, we all lay down. If the kids need it, they fall asleep. If they don't well, at least they got some down time. Most of the time our little guy will fall asleep and big brother sometimes (they are 4 and 7 this year).

We have never been quiet either and DS sleeps very very soundly. We raised DD the same way, but she just doesn't sleep as well. I think she's afraid of missing something! Actually, DS takes after me and DD takes after dad.

Just picked up a sound spa clock radio for DS. He has been having trouble getting to sleep at night and I thought that might relax him. We're going to try it tonight -- wish us luck!
