What would you do? 100 banked points at VGC & no availability.

Hey all,

Was just looking for some suggestions because I'm a bit stuck as to what to do with some VGC points expiring soon (first world problems, I know!).

I've got 100x points from UY20 expiring in August 2022. I banked the 2021 points already. We just recently closed the resale contract on VGC however by the time the points have loaded, the 7 month window has passed and there is basically zero availability for anything at VGC.

So, I'm open to ideas as to what to do with them. I would have loved to rent them out knowing the desirability but maybe try renting them out for a WDW resort?

I would either rent them out for a WDW resort stay or I’d stalk daily the DVC site for an opening for dates you can utilize the points at VGC. People do cancel it just takes checking a couple times a day.

Interval International is an option, you can also book the regular hotels on points, not the best use of points, but better than letting them expire. We had an issue with a glut of points when we first joined forna variety of reasons, so we ended up booking Paradise Pier Hotel over Thanksgiving weekend and had a blast.

People do cancel VGC reservations but your simplest option is to just offer them for rent for any DVC location that someone requests and has availability.

Can’t book nonDVC hotels with resale points, unless purchased before 3/2011.

Offer them as a transfer to another member, with the 50% borrowing rule in place many members are short of points when booking. Since they are past the 7 month window, they have lost the premium price that VGC points have. Good Luck.

Points already banked can not be transferred to someone else.

Just join DVC Rental store and offer the points up for rent. You can also look at people looking to rent and see if what you have will meet their needs and offer the points to them. Just posting your points there does not mean you have to take any offers. You can also offer them here on the DIS. I was able to do that with some BLT points I had that were going to expire at the end of Jan and was able to rent them out with no issues.

Sorry, didn't catch they were resale, I figured since direct sales are cheaper than resales at VGC right now, maybe they got lucky and got direct points.

I literally just went through this in the last week. I was able to rent out all the points through the rent/transfer forum on this site. It took about 24 hours from the time I posted the points for sale and for them to be gone.

Rent them and use the proceeds to cover dues or against the purchase price.
you can book any other DVC resort with them as you are at the 7 month to expiry mark. Should be able to get at least $16pp.

As others have said, you can rent out the points for use at the Disney World DVC resorts. Common methods of renting out the points include:
- on the Rent/Trade Board here
- through the DVC Rental Store
- through David's Vacation Club Rentals

The DVC Rental Store is a Disboards sponsor.

Some people were not happy with the way David's treated owners at the beginning of the Pandemic.

If you are thinking of using either of them, be aware that the two companies have different rules, so do your research and make an informed decision.
