At what point would the inconvince make you not fly and chose to drive/train/bus/not go on a trip? I would be alright with out a carry on bag and allowing 1 fifty pound bag per passenger if they used those bomb proof luggage carriers in planes. I would feel safer, but I would probley go stir crazy if the planes were not proactive in showing movies and having other snacks & drinks to purchase often. I can handle no liquids, no electronics, no carry-ons.

I would be OK with a small carry-on for absolute essentials like meds, eyeglasses, baby needs, cell phones, PDA devices (DH has to have his when we travel due to business, and i wouldn't trust it being packed in the checked luggage)plus one more bag with a 50lb weight limit.

Truthfully not a lot

No electronics means no laptop, no cell phone, no digital camera. These are things that I almost always travel with. If I wasn't allowed to travel with the last two, I probably would stop flying. Okay I know I would. Especially my cell phone. There is no way I would check that, my DSLR or my laptop. I could live w/o a laptop though.

It's also bad to think I cannot bring anything for my contacts with me. My eyes dry out on the plane and then I will have to wait until my bags (if they make it) to come through or buy more just to be okay?

It's not medicine so I cannot bring it. I have no glasses I can wear... so effectively that means I have to go blind or pray nothing gets in my eyes.

Yes, this is selfish, but it is also a bit rediculous IMO that I cannot even bring saline solution with me.

No luggage on planes makes it rough for weekend trips, but that also means you are hurting those who fly for business. No electronics? That would really leave a lot of people out since they have to bring laptops with them for work.

Personally, I think the restrictions on the 2 carry ons now was over the top and not necessary.

I personally will have trouble flying if they don't lift the restrictions on liquids in a few weeks.

I would rather arrive 4 hours prior to my flight and have them go through my suitcase than being restricted in the amount I can bring with me, really (but I must admit, as most Europeans, I only fly when going on vacation)

They have lost my suitcase already so many times, that I always put clothes for 1-2 days in my carry-on, plus some stuff I don't like to put in my suitcase (camera, laptop, edicins, ...)
Next to that, when I come back from the US, I usually have twice the amount as when I arrived there, because of the extensive shopping I do there.
If they put restrictions on suitcases, carry-ons, etc, I will probably not go to the US that often anymore...

My DH has always been nervous about flying. We flew for the last time 2 weeks before 9/11.

We leave on a flight in two weeks. He is seriously considering cancelling the flight and driving to Orlando.

He is freaked to say the least.

I'd accept whatever it would take to keep me and my family safe while flying.

Check everything!

Follow up with baggage tags. Las Vegas is the only airport I have been to where they check luggage tickets to the tickets given to you at the claims desk before you leave the baggage area.

Planes should be equiped with internet access so people don't need to bring on PDAs, cell phones or laptops for any flight under 3 hours.

The world survived just fine a few years ago without cell phones, pda and laptops on airplanes. People have to realize they are not as important as they believe they are and their companies can survive without contact from them while they are flying. If you want to fly with those item, hire a charter jet!

I only fly a few times a year, but I feel pretty safe with the current system :confused3 .

I am more nervous about riding my bike to work.

If carry-ons were limited or there were 3-5 HOUR WAITS at security-- people would feel more secure but 20-40% of flyers would just think the whole process is to much hassle and they would just cancel their trip-- or drive. Of course this would destroy the travel industry and would make places like Orlando and Disney ghost towns.

Until you can guarantee that baggage will not be lost or stolen from, this will never work. I will NEVER put a laptop in checked baggage with the way that is handled. Same goes for cell phone and camera. They cost too much to be left into those hands.

And people use cell phones/PDAs/laptops for WORK not for pleasure. I see many business men working on their projects while flying.

I think that is an issue here... most poeple who fly do it for pleasure, not for business.

I bet if you ask the majority of the business world, you would hear different answers.

And if you think chartering a jet will work, I think you are off again... that costs a lot more than it does to send someone coach or even business class.

I could live without the carry-on and 1 50lb bag would be a strech but doable.

But I wonder what about things like DME could you go that long with none of your stuff or if allowed would you check 2 bags and send one with DME tags and just pick up the other yourself.

If it really gets that bad I would just start shipping stuff I needed down including cloths (take a few days and ship the rest). Then ship it all back home so nothing would have to go back with me .

The reality is I can make a quick stop at the outlets and buy what I need for the week if I had to.

I may not want to use any of those things during flight but when I land I may need them. Until the airlines will 100% replace everything that was lost or damaged during the flight, I still want to carry it on so I can have a little more control over how it is handled.

I also don't want to put my digital cameral in my checked suitcase but I probably won't use it during the flight. However I will definately want that when I get to Disney and I don't want to have to go buy another one once I get here because that is a little expensive for my camera.

I don't put expensive electronics in my checked luggage - I don't trust people. And one carry-on and one luggage would never cut it for us - we have carseats and strollers and all the stuff a toddler needs. This last flight, I checked one suitcase and carried on three bags, plus a carseat.

Since when is there a liquid ban? I flew on Tuesday and brought Russ's milk and juice and Starbucks on board. It would definitely be a hassle to be requesting whole milk and diluted juice.

It would make me feel safer if there were no reclining seats. ;)

Oh, I just read the other threads - my baby is too busy watching TV so I haven't caught the news yet. ;)

On second thought... It would be annoying to not carry on his drinks, but as long as they had decent milk (instead of 1%, ew!) and didn't mind diluting his juice... I would have more problems not being able to carry on his "stuff". It was hard enough to keep him from kicking the seat with 20 billion toys to entertain him. And he's teething so we go through a LOT of diapers.

Not too much more. They're getting close to making you fly naked or at least with a full body search before boarding the plane. People aren't going to fly. If the liquid ban doesn't ease or doesn't import some common sense the airlines are going to collapse again - they're already taking a pounding today. I fly Monday and I'm not thrilled that I can't bring infants tylenol on the plane with me - none of the other passengers will be either...

I was just discussing this with a neighbor and he said something that is all too often very true. There are too kinds of luggage: carry on and lost!

I don't fly very often and would prefer to drive if time permits. I can live quite well without a cell phone, laptop, etc., for the flight. The one thing I must travel with and will not check into the robber's hands is my CPAP machine I need for sleeping. Having lost (had stolen) bags to the airlines before is my major reason for not flying. I try to travel very light these days and would prefer to carry on everything, but I guess that won't be possible anymore. I also don't like having to be at the airport hours before the flight. That takes a lot of the convenience out of flying.

It's odd that with all the security going on at airports they have not slowed stealing by baggage handlers! I guess they focus on locking the front door and leave the back door open...

This all will not go away until the source of the threat is eliminated. Totally eliminated. Now, the most effective ways of accomplishing that are very politically incorrect, but we can't diddle around forever.

MSNBC has just been discussing the probable reasoning behind the liquids ban - it appears that the plotters were planning on making a liquid explosive from multiple otherwise benign components brought on by multiple people. Acetone peroxide was mentioned - acetone is basically nail polish remover. They would go in the lavoratory & mix the ingredients on the plane.

This is very scary - I certainly can do without a carry-on for safety reasons.

Maybe the airlines can stock little bottles of contact solution on board. I have a dry eye condition & constantly have to put drops in my eyes - I would have to get a doctor's note for that!

It's already too much of a pain to fly for me.

I'm not afraid to fly at all, we all just enjoy driving more and hate all the restrictions that are involved with flying. Other than vacations, I have no need to fly so it's just not an issue for me personally.

If I do fly, I'll accept whatever rules are in place. After all, we have no inherent right to fly.
