What would Walt have wanted?

I'm curious, are any of you disappointed with California Adventure? I sure was. I do think CA Screamin and Drop Zone and Tower of Terror are fun, but you can get those same thrills on rides at Magic Mountain. Do any of you think Walt Disney would of approved it? In my opinion, I don't think he would have. He always said there will never be an end to Disneyland. I think the former parking lot should of been added on to the Disneyland park, or a seperate park titled "World of Dreams" and have each section of it honor a Disney park in other parts of the world. The Tokyo, France sections, etc.. would be like you're actually at those parks if you get my idea. And to my knowledge something similar to that was the original plan. I'm curious to find out what you all think about it. :sunny:

Do you mean Maliboomer? ;)

IMO DCA is a young park, just like DL was 50 years ago. I think it has some great attractions, shows, restaurants. But it also has some attractions that, like Superstar Limo, will be replaced/changed over the years. Entire areas of Disneyland have been removed or changed over the years.

If you go to DCA expecting another Disneyland you will be disapointed. Because DCA is NOT another Disneyland but another Disney Park.

I always heard they were going to make a Westcot by Disneyland. And over time it just financially didn't come together. I like DCA okay. But I agree with you that it's no Disneyland. One thing I wish they would take out is all the carnival booth games they have along the pier. To me that just isn't "Disney like". I try not to get into all the "what Walt would have wanted or not wanted" stuff, but I have a hard time seeing Him liking those carnival booths because of a quote by him in this little Disney book we bought:

"A word may be said in regard to the concept and conduct of Disneyland's operational tone. Although various sections will have the fun and flavor of a carnival or amusement park, there will be none of the "pitches", game wheels, sharp practices, and devices designed to milk the visitor's pocketbook".

Walt Disney

I think Walt would not have developed DCA. But then again, he probably would have nixed MGM and possibly even Animal Kingdom --- definitly Pleasure Island.

We give saintly status to Walt, and I do not think that does him or the company a service.

Walt not wanting to pick our wallets? Ummmm, do you want to talk about carnival games or how about $400 basic hotel rooms? Disney is a business. Surely not the same business as if Walt were alive. But if Walt were alive, I doubt you would have much of what is in Disney theme parks in general - and there wouldn't be the rush to go either.

DCA blast away. I enjoy it. It is my mother's and son's favorite park. It is in it's infancy. We can wax rhapsodic about the good old days - but they are always more glorius in hindsight.

:confused3

I don't know whether he would have approved or not, but we love DCA! I think given time, the park will grow and develop into something much better than it already is.

As for the carnival games, we actually played a few of those while we were there last week. While the games are "like" the ones you find at carnivals and fairs, they are not run that way at all. It's not difficult to win (the CM's try their hardest to "help" you win and get just as big a kick out of you winning as you do!) and even the smallest prizes are more than worth the $1 it cost to win them. We looked at it as though we were getting to play games and buy souveniers all at the same time. :sunny:

I do know that Walt Disney personally disliked Coney Island-type of amusment parks. So I'm not sure if he would approve of that portion of DCA.
But I think the park is well done- and fulfills Walt's dream of family entertainment. The park has a LOT of potential, and already has great rides and shows like Aladin, Twlight Zone, Soarin' and California Screamin.

Walt didnt like whiners. He had a can do attitude and spirit and good down to earth christian values that he imbued the development of his park with. I agree he may not have approved of the dca, but he certainly would have approved of its popularity with families. and as some of you noted, the cm's dont run the games like some of these sleazy carnivals that disassemble equipment and leave in middle of the night.

Ok maybe he would not have given it a green light, but if he saw it at its current stage he would have smiled.

Yes Disneyland is our fave, but we always tend to spend a bit more time at DCA. Maybe it is the BEER.
