We had a Tusker House ADR for our trip, but when my Grandpa decided to join us, they said they didn't have a table for 5-so we had to cancel it. If 5 of us had showed up for an ADR for 4, would they have turned us away? I would never do this, but am curious.

I am hoping for a cancellation once we get there (Monday:banana:) Keeping my fingers crossed!

Most likely, and this is just an educated guest, since they didn't have a table availabe for five through your ADR, they would have converted you into a walk-up, assigned you a spot on their list as a walk-up, and seated you once a table for five became available.

We were 5 and my DH joined us early. We had no problem at any TS locations. I just explained at the podium and all was fine.

Most of the places have tables for 2, 4, 6. So if you go from an odd number to an even number (say from 5 people to 6 people) it isn't as big of a deal because a party of 5 would be seated at a table for 6 anyway. However, if you go from an even to an add (4 people to 5), it changes the table size needed and then is a bigger deal. In that case, you would probably have to go on their standby list and risk not being seated if they are fully booked already.

Show up anyway- we didn't have ADR's at all and stopped by at 10:00 am to check if there any openings for lunch for 5 people. They did. The place was not overly packed and the table was for 6 anyway. BTW we love it!

we already had an adr for 4 and showed up with my aunt which made 5 and they accomodated us...i was kind of scared of being turned down but it all worked out...nothing was said:cutie:

I had an ADR at 50s Prime Time last trip for my family. It always should have been for 5 (4 eating + baby) but it was in their system as 4. We had to wait, and wait and wait. It was a big deal, even though the baby wasn't eating and didn't even need a high chair.

It was a busy lunchtime (they seemed book solid--I think it was during free dining last fall). They did accommodate us, but I definitely felt like we waited much longer because of the increase in party size.

We just let DD add a friend to our August trip. DH called to add her name to our DVC ressie and was told when he asked not to bother calling dining. We were a party of three so showing up with just 4 would be fine. I am still a tad concerned about Biergarten because of the family style seating. But it isn't a "must do" so if they can't accommodate us, we'll just eat a burger at the American Adventure and someone looking for a walk up will be very happy.

You shouldn't have a problem. We were able to get ADR's same day. It's also usually a restaurant that Le Cellier or Chefs suggests when people are angry they cannot get in there.

Totally agree. Going up in party size from an even number to an odd number can cause problems depending on the restaurants and the bookings at that particular time. Think about a normal restaurant. A party of four is usually seated at a table for four. Now take that up to five and what needs to happen? Disney doesn't just pull over an extra chair. You would need another table of either two to add to the four or a totally new table for six.

Not sure why it would be in their system as four if you made the reservation for five. If you said there was one child, they will ask for the age. So not sure about why the mix up there.

But, even an infant will need to be counted as a person. High chair or no high chair. Eating or not eating. No matter if the child is held for the entire meal and the server has to do nothing more for him/her, an infant is still a person for dining.

FWIW - Last August we were a party of 5, 3A,2C and all our reservations were made months ahead for a party of 5. At CM and 'Ohana we were seated at a 4 top, and Disney did indeed, just pull over a chair. It was a bit tight at the table! At our other 4TS, we were at a 6 top.

Depending on the time of year and how busy the restaurant is at the time you are dining, most likely you won't be turned away if you show up with more people than what is on your ADR. What usually happens is the restaurant will do their best to accomodate your party, which sometimes means waiting longer for a table.

Last time I booked for a party of 4 & another friend from UK joined us at the Rose & Crown I called dining & ask if she had a table for 5 said none but she said are you sure it isn't a party of 6? If so I can get you in at 5PM. I said it was for 5 but she said no you said 6 & I booked it for 6 & gave me the number & said tell them one didn't show up. ;) Her words not mine.
