I have been having floating spots in my left eye for about 3 weeks now.
They are driving me nuts and I keep chasing away bugs that arn't there.
I do have glaucoma ...but don't think that is causing the problem.

Anyone with any ideas. :confused3

A lot of people have floaters; here's a lin that explains them. But if you just noticed them sort of suddenly, I'd suggest you contact your doctor, especially if they look like flashes of light. Here's what that same webpage says:
If you suddenly see new floaters, or eye floaters accompanied by flashes of light or peripheral vision loss, it could indicate serious conditions such as diabetic retinopathy; vascular abnormalities such as retinal hemorrhages or carotid artery disease, or the beginning of a retinal detachment. The retina can tear if the shrinking vitreous gel pulls away from the wall of the eye. This sometimes causes a small amount of bleeding in the eye that may appear as new floaters. You should see your eye doctor immediately.

Yep. Definitely see a doctor. This could also be a sign of macular degeneration. If you catch it early there are treatments that can slow/stop the progression (my grandma has wet macular degeneration).

Please see a doctor right away. Go to an ophthalmologist instead of an optometrist, and make sure that they dilate your eyes and check your optic nerve for any abnormalities. If you develop a severe headache with dizzyness or any other strange symptoms, make an emergency appointment and go immediately. I don't mean to alarm you, but this needs to be checked out.

Wow I just thought that this was something simple. I do have an appt. with the Opth. (MD) on June 1st, that is the soonest that they could get me in. The spots did start suddenly and I have always had headaches, so that is nothing new.

Right at this moment they don't seem to be so bad or I would have to get off my comp. But give it a few and they will be back.

Thanks a lot for writing back and letting me know, will call Mon. to see if I can get in earlier. I have been going to Dr for glaucoma about every 3 months but havn't been in a year as I am changing Dr's. Thanks again.

I've had these for years and my eye doctor says mine are nothing to worry about. With your history, I'd get in to the doc ASAP. I'd call them tomorrow and tell them you are seeing spots and hopefully they will work you in, in a day or two. They could also be a new component to your headaches.

:sad2: Guess what....Dr is on vacation and won't be back until june 1st. So I will have to wait, have noticed the past 2 days they arn't quite so bad. I did read all of the report in SueM's reply and I don't have flashes of light. I am very nearsighted though so if that would have anything to so with the spots. Shirley

Hi, Shirley. It's a good sign that you aren't having the flashes of light and dizzyness.

I said a prayer for you. It will be okay. :grouphug:

Thank you so much that is very nice. Prayers do really help. Shirley

The spots are probably nothing to worry about, but like everyone else says...Go to the Doc and find out for sure! I started seeing spots a few years ago and went to the Doc and he said that they were nothing to worry about, and they haven't caused me any problems since. I actually play games with them..I have the spots chase each other around. I can only imagine what this looks like to someone watching me but, hey, they're always there... might as well have fun with'em!

:sunny: Thanks for your concerns....will know on June 1st. They havn't been so bad lately as I am not chasing bugs away all of the time. Shirley

:goodvibes Finally got to see the eye Dr. The spots are just something with a big long name. They are caused by liquid behind the eyes that break away. Cause.....getting old. The good news is that my eyes are healthy and no new problems.

The Dr can't make my eyes any clearer to see with as due to my strong glasses. But I can see and am very happy that nothing is serious. :3dglasses

thanks for reporting back. I was wondering what happened.
