i saw in the news items this morning that disney's doing a national tour to promote the new theme for 2009: what will you celebrate? they're coming to atlanta (near where i live) on 10/17 and i'd like to go. the only problem is i can find NO information anywhere about what's involved as far as purchasing tickets, what time it is, WHAT it is, nothing!

i found the disney website for it: http://www.disneyparkscelebrations.com/default.aspx

of course there's really no info there either. anyone heard any details on this?

I want to know too!
I live 2 hours from Atlanta & 2 hours from Charlotte. I want to go to one of them.

Why waste your time and money going to a public relations dog and pony show? :happytv: The entire program is a big nothing and certainly not worth going out of your way for. All it is is a way to get people to spend more money, it has nothing new to offer and is basically just a rehash of old promotions. I hate to be some negative but if people keep getting excited about junk like this Disney will never announce anything worthwhile!

And how do you know this, considering it doesn't even start until Sept 24th?

wow. do you know something we don't? i can't find any info on it at all. i'm most likely still going.

Have you read Thursday's announcement? If so did you see anything exciting in it? NO, imagine that. All this roadshow is going to do is promote it so obviously the roadshow isn't going to be worth going to considering it's just a marketing ploy! I don't have to know the details to be sure it's not going to be worth the time nor money. :thumbsup2

for someone who's not trying to be negative, you're sure coming off that way. i understand if you don't want to go but i don't understand the attitude. and it may be that there's really not much to it but i don't think they've released ANY details about it. if you go to the website, it doesn't even have how to get tickets, where these events are taking place (at least for the atlanta show), nothing. so i can't imagine they've released all the info that's going to be available. i just don't understand why you'd want to rain on the parades of those of us who are interested.

I'll see you there, Punkin... That is...if we ever find out "when" and "where" is ;)

If I didn't live near Atlanta, tho, don't think I'd go out of my way to see this!

I'm hoping after their first tour, which will be Sept. 24, they will post pictures and more info on the event (on their website).

But it makes sense to also post it here.

My sister is a Disney College program campus rep and from what she is telling me is it basically is going to be college reps handing out 5,000 Mickey-shaped (eco friendly) balloons with an informational card about the What Will You Celebrate? promotion for 2009. I don't know if it is going to vary from city to city or what else is being offered (i.e. prize drawings), but that is the gist of it.

WOW! Disney balloons, now I really want to go and see the tour. The more I hear about it the more I realize it's just another serving of FLUFF.

I agree- I'm no longer interested in finding out more about the promotion, nor tracking it down once it gets to Atlanta.

I'm hoping that there are surprises that they didn't feel the need to have her know about, because just driving balloons from city to city sounds ... lame.
When she was telling me about it we had the whole "And then?" "No and then. That's it." conversation.
I think if one day I was randomly walking down the street and someone handed me a Mickey balloon I would think it was cool. However, if I drove two hours to a particular city to see some mysterious tour I have been reading about and looking forward to for a month and had to walk all around a city to find people handing out Mickey balloons, I would cry.
Like I said, I hope there is more to it, otherwise I really don't see the point of announcing it as a tour. I'll be curious to hear peoples' experiences with it now that the tour is actually starting.

It appears that Detroit will have two events. The official website lists "Campus Marius, Royal Oak."

I assume that "Campus Marius" really means Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit.

Then, there will be a "family fun night" in Royal Oak, around 15 miles north of downtown Detroit. A newspaper has some information about this one:

i'm thinking we haven't heard everything about it. i can't imagine it's just balloons and that's it. today's the first event right? has anyone seen/heard anything about it?

From what I've been reading on different sites, what happens really depends on the city for what the Disney tour will do.

I'm a stay at home mom and will take my kids to this, even if all we get out of it is a free balloon. It's something different to do. Any thing to get my Disney fix!

The Disney Parks Celebrations page has been updated to include a more specific area of the city for the tour.

add me to the atlanta list.. maybe if i have time we will go out and see it

Has anyone been to this event yet? Are they doing something more than just giving out balloons?

Hopefully keeping my job.

Somebody please bring the price of gas back to yesteryear and let's get things back to normal.
