What will replace the MSEP?

I love the nighttime parades in Disneyland, does anybody know if the MSEP will be replaced?

My understanding is that Paint the Night will be running in DCA in 2018. That's all they're mentioned at this point.

I recently heard a CM saying the MSELP will be extended again and go to the end of the year. I thought that was unlikely but with PTN not returning until 2018 that made me wonder if it might actually be true.

I would love if that was true. I've seen PTN the last couple of years at DLR but haven't seen MSEP in years. And mostly I just hope that they don't leave DLR completely devoid of a night parade through the end of the year.

That said, random castmembers at DLR are probably about as reliable as bus drivers at WDW.

It actually was not a random CM but my friend's friend who has worked for Disney for several decades. I don't think she knows for sure but I think it's heavily speculated.

If they don't extend MSEP, I would imagine they're thinking Fantasmic will be enough at night for a while. Once PTN goes to DCA and Pixar Play Parade goes to DL, it's not like Disneyland is going to have a real nighttime parade anyway, right?

But I wonder if the intention is to have Fantasmic running every night through the end of the year. The advantage of a night parade is that weekday visitors can watch. I'd like to see them have a parade and Fantasmic for now even if it's just to split that Fantasmic crowd. I honestly don't care WHICH of the 2 parks has a night parade. I just hope one of them does.

I hope this is true. We are heading to DL after Aug 20th, but I would love to be able to see it once more.

To Disney, the advantage of not having a night parade is not paying the performers and cried control CMs.

I can see the crowd control benefits of splitting Fantasmic and a popular night parade into two different parks. A couple weeks ago I made the mistake of trying to cross Disneyland during the first parade/fireworks campout. It was a nightmare made worse by CM's giving bad directions. Although I don't know how PTN and WOC could be at the same time either. Maybe WOC is doing down for a refurb.

If you look at the park hours pages on the Disneyland website, it lists MSEP until 20 Aug, then Soundsational switches from 1 afternoon parade to 1 afternoon, 1 evening. So I guess it's soundsational for the night parade until further notice.

That's what I thought I read somewhere but can't remember where I saw it - maybe nothing official.
Soundsational was going to be the 'nighttime' parade for now after MSEP ends its current run.
Times were something like 4.30pm and 7pm.
I was wondering how Soundsational would go at night - it's not a 'light-up' parade is it like MSEP and PtN obviously are?

That's correct. No specific timing mentioned except that it's part of 2018 being the "year of Pixar" at DLR so many are assuming next year. No word yet on whether there will be a night parade at DLR between 8/20 (when MSEP is supposed to retire) and 2018.

they have to remove the fake cable car lines at DCA first so it might take awhile for PTN to move in...
