I'm about ready to finalize the last advance dinner reservation things for the WDW marathon trip. I'm looking for suggestions for where/what to eat the night before the race. This is my first marathon, so I'm not only asking for tips on Disney locations, but actual eating tips for a newbie.

Thanks.
Dona

We are just waiting to see what the crowd is doing before we decide. We are doing the Goofy so it will be comforting to groan and moan with others who did the half and are doing the full the next day.

I guess it depends on what you like to eat and what sits well with your stomach. Some people go to China in Epcot, some to any place that serves pasta. Last year I played it by ear and ended up eating something from our Hotels counter service.

I know there are plans to meet up on Friday evening at POP Century, which is before the 1/2. I don't think there are any official meets before the full, but I am sure there will be people meeting up.

We are doing the Rainforest Cafe the night before the half (they have a few pasta and veggie choices available there) and Spoodles the night before the full (nice lean protein and grains there). I'm not sure if this is a smart idea or not, but that is the plan!

My bootcamp instructor, who is also a coach for TNT, actually gave me her eating tips before a marathon this weekend. Her carb load (i.e. pasta night) is not the night before the race, but two nights before the race. She spends the next day periodically chowing down on bagel halfs and peanut butter and hydrating the whole time. She won't eat after 5 pm to make sure things are out of her system and she won't be stuck in porta potty lines during the race if you know what I mean. I have also been cautioned against Chinese food the night before as it tends to be quite salty, and any spice may totally affect your digestive system (not to mention if they use MSG, but I doubt the restaurant in China does).

Dona--my main tip would be not to eat anything that you normally wouldn't eat the night before a long run/walk; or something you haven't tried.I found out during training that pizza and beer are NOT the best pre-LR meal!;) We've made ressies at Spoodles like Leanna--for an early dinner. I will have some sort of lean protein and then some carb.

I agree with Leana. I eat protein for lunch for both the Fri & Sat before both races. I eat carbs for dinner but no later than 5:00 pm. I have read/heard the big carb loading day is 2 days before as well. Eat bland simple foods to avoid stomach issues. Hopefully whatever you eat, you have eaten the night before a race or LSD previously. No surprises.

Yep, the key is to know what you run best on and try and find that in your area - which is why it makes sense to practise run on pasta as it's everywhere. I used to run on a mee goreng (a spicy Malaysian noodle dish from teh food hall we used to go to Saturday evenings) but then ran a race away from home and the noodles weren't the same and I boinked...... soooo, while you can always find pasta, noodles can be a hit and miss affair. Pizza doesn't work for me nor does curry and rice - but I run like the wind after a burrito and rice (no jokes please!!!).

So to answer your question about locations - I tend to eat offsite the night before the race and have done Red Lobster pasta and TGI Fridays pasta both at Crossroads close to Downtown Disney - I don't run on Mexican in the States as the portions are too big - tho if you need me at lunchtime after the marathon, I'll be the one sinking the chicken burrito and Corona at Chevys!!!

Also, don't forget to train on a breakfast that is easy to make in a hotel - again, I used to run on porridge - but try and make that in a Disney hotel room???? Helen

Helen,
I love "Mee Goreng". I live in Missouri so the chances of getting it is very slim. I have yet to find a recipe that tastes as good as I had it in Malaysia and Singapore.

At least we know who is who!

I'm sure glad the teasing got moved from Vic and Dave to Vic and Robert. You can have top billing on this one homies.

Well personally guys I get tired of being blamed for everything I do.pirate:

Let it be known that I am not the only one who brings chaos and panic to the forum. I'm just a victim of circumstantial evidence. The real makers of mayham we mentioned previously.
