What were your 'Best Spent Monies'?

My DD21s softball career - she started when she was 7yrs old with town ball. She started pitching lesson at 8yrs old and continued until 14yrs old. Started travel softball at 11yrs old. Started hitting lessons at 11yrs old and stayed with the same instructor until she retired at 21yrs old. Went to an elite travel program at 11yrs old and stayed there until college. Played 4 years of varsity for her HS and then was recruited to play in college. So for 13 years we payed BIG $ for DD21s softball and we all have priceless memories - some of the best moments of my life happened during those 13 years. Would I spend the money again? Absolutely!

All our WDW trips and our one DCL with our girls. I went many times before we had the girls, but the best trips I had were with them. It was, and still is, so wonderful about going as a mom. Would I do all these trips again? Absolutely!

Oh my gosh yall, I love these!! Travel is so important!
I would add every single time we stayed at the Grand Floridian!

We have also rented beach houses in an expensive beach town in FL and hosted family and yes, worth every penny.

Keep going, I love reading these!!

Books, physical books.
Nat Geo magazine subscription
Love love love physical books... also quite proud that I have an unbroken Nat Geo subscription that goes back to the 1960s.... Best bathroom reading ever, and quite honestly a great source of information. It takes up several large bookcases in the guest room currently... although I keep a large stack of it in the bathroom cabinets.

In no particular order.

A once in a lifetime dive trip to Palau. Cost way more then we had ever spent on a dive trip and way more then we ever spent on one since then but wow oh wow was it worth it. We paid 100% cash on it (it was on credit cards that were paid off before the trip).

Paid cash for our brand new (at the time) fifth wheel and brand new (at the time) truck to pull it. We had to save for a year to do it but it was about a year before the trying times. Turns out hubby had to travel for his job almost every month of that year so we were able to just pack up the RV, and the dog and I were able to travel with him so he didn't have to stay in hotels that year. We don't use it the way we planned but have gotten way more than our money's worth using it for his work and visits to his parents. Being able to park it in their yard and not stay in the house with them so we can have our alone time, get up or go to bed when we want and eat what we want most of time, is well worth it. We even installed a power pole with the correct power where we park it there so we are totally independent (they already had a water source there).

DD's 2nd marriage- They put it on themselves, with a LOT of help from DH and me. Best money I spent was $500 for 2 "house elves." These women did everything on wedding day that I didn't have time to do (I was decorating the cake, among other things). They set up tents and tables, decorated, directed band and pizza delivery, set up hors d'oeuvres table, set up the guest book/gift area... all the things that I didn't have time to do. They came at 8am and stayed until the meal was served, and we wouldn't have had the wedding "ready" without them.

The $8K we've spent on DD's new house. In their price range, there weren't any "decent' homes for the money. If we'd given them the cash, it wouldn't have bought them anything different; whatever they bought would still have needed work. By paying for the repairs, appliances, etc., they have a much nicer home than they would have had if they just added that $8K on to their offer.

Our summer week (or 2) at a beach cottage. This is buying me peace of mind for the upcoming year. Not cheap ($2K+ per week), but what is the price of sanity?

Travel in general, although we are pretty frugal about it. We juggle credit cards (paid off in full each month) for the points, so as I type I am sitting in New Orleans; DH's flight was on points and I traveled as his companion, so all we paid in cash was $22.40 each, round trip, in taxes. Not bad for airfare!

Can I ask what beach you go to?

Mattress - $10K splurge. 100% worth it
Well, that tops the $4,000 our neighbors paid for their adjustable, does everything but tuck you in, mattress. And that was the most expensive mattress I had ever heard of until this post.

Best investment: Education, hands down
Best ongoing expense: Family vacations

Sending DH's shirts out for wash and press.
Having the cars detailed a couple of times a year.
Having our taxes done professionally.

Of course I cherish the travel, entertainment and sports experiences we've had over the years and some of the fine things we own, but when it comes to things we could easily do without but they bring a great deal of value to daily life, those three are definitely tops! :cloud9: Honorable mention to $7/lb new potatoes from the farmer's market and other first-crop seasonal produce in early summer. I can't wait!
I would pay $$$$$$$ for new potatoes 😍

Honestly- not terribly interested in being tops, just sleeping! As a insomniac I will pay whatever to sleep!

Speaking of....looks like we'll both be at WDW sometime this month. If you see an overweight, looney-liberal with reddish hair and glasses....it might be me! 🤣 Be sure to say hi.

A good mattress is a worthy investment, for sure. I have RA and have really struggled these past few years to find something good. What do you have?

That is kind of what my neighbors said. Their special mattress needed due to a medical condition.
