Inspired by a most unexpected tangent from another thread...

What was your wedding song and why did you choose it?

My wedding song was called "You're The One" by Shane MacGowan, from the soundtrack of a movie called "Circle of Friends". The movie is about Irish teens growing up in the 1950's. These are the lyrics:

You fill my sweetest dreams
You fill my sleep
You fill my heart with love
You make my life complete
When all is said and done
Darling I know you're the one

Lying in my lonely bed
Thought about you as the moon
Listening to the sad songs down below
Thought about you as the tune
Wish that I could let you know
I think about you as the sun
So you're everywhere I go
My darling I know you're the one

The one I long to see
To drown myself in you
Surround myself safe in your arms
Forever

Darling I know you're the one

Funny how the circle turns
Funny how the flame still burns
Now that all is said and done
Darling I know you're the one

Wherever you go
I'll always know
Darling I know you're the one
You're the one
Darling I know you're the one

We had an instrumental version (with traditional Irish instruments) for the processional and then the song itself for our first dance.

Since I am separated at the moment, it makes me rather sad to read those words. We really did mean them at the time.

Oh man, I didn't mean to make this a bummer thread. People with happy marriages, feel free to post, too.

Well, I should have had another Shane McGowan tune as my wedding song to a previous marriage:

Fairytale of New York

It was Christmas Eve, babe
Iiiinnn the drunk tank...

Sorry, just trying to cheer you up a little. It may be very painful right now, but, trust me, years from now, you'll look back and see that everything worked out for the very best.

Bless you, sweetie.

My husband wrote his own song for the wedding. I can't for the life of me remember the lyrics, but it was a beautiful song.

I didnt compose songs . i asked the violinist to play some romantic Disney songs during our intimate ceremony.

My 2nd anniversary is just 30 days away. Our wedding song was the Aerosmith song from Armageddon.

When we were dating, I lived here in MA and hubby lived in NJ. We would spend every night on the phone talking and he was almost always watching a movie. Armageddon was one of his favorites, so that became our song.

"Cross my hear" by George Straite I believe....WHY>?????? cause the hubby said so, end of story....lol....... :rotfl2: :lmao:
I didn't care really - he let me choose everything else so what the heck.....
10 yrs this nov...and he has learned well - give me what I want and I stay happy....Now I just need to get him to committ to another WDW trip>..../.

We had "Can I have this dance for the rest of my life" from Urban Cowboy. It was suggested by the band We couldn't think of a good song

Just The way You Are by Billy Joel -- it was our third choice. Our other two favorite songs weren't songs our band played. :)

DH and I had two songs. For our first dance, we used Etta James' version of "Embraceable You." We chose it because we liked to listen to her songs with dinner, and more importantly, it was easy to dance to (I am a klutz at formal dancing....I even stomped on my dad's foot during our wedding dance--accidentally of course!).

Our real song was the last song the DJ played--"All I Want is You" by U2. We are both huge U2 fans, and our first date was a U2 show, so it was appropriate. Our ninth anniversary is June 1.

I have no recollection of what was played at the ceremony, but our song was Shama Lama Ding Dong - Lloyd Williams. Yes, it's from the Animal House soundtrack. Lord knows, my mom was mortified.

If You Say My Eyes Are Beautful by Whitney Houston and Jermaine Jackson.

The Wonder of You - Elvis
We just liked it!

"It Had To Be You" by Harry Connick, Jr.

Before my DH and I started even dating, he asked if we would ever be anything more than friends. I said no....you are my Harry friend, as in "When Harry Met Sally".

6 months later as the credits were rolling from When Harry Met Sally....he proposed.

Our nicknames for eachother are Harry and Sally.

I'm not getting married until next July, but our wedding song is going to be "When You Wish Upon a Star". We're both Disney fanatics and it's such a great song, so why not?

We had traditional wedding music, but our first dance was to "To Make You Feel My Love" by Garth Brooks. (It's the love song from Hope Floats)

This is our movie too!! We watched it last night!

In fact, all through dinner at our wedding we played the "When Harry Met Sally" soundtrack! Love it! You guys have good taste!! ;)

But- our wedding song was "At Last" by Etta James. I still get goosebumps when I hear it (even if I usually hear it on the Fancy Feast commercial :furious: :lmao: )

"Push" by Sarah McLaughlin. I first heard it when DH and I were dating, and the words just seem to fit us, I decided not long after hearing it that it would be our wedding song. And it was! :goodvibes

Okay, don't laugh. Ours is "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time on You," by NSYNC. Long story short, that is the song that was on the radio when my DH realized that he was in love with me.

In honor of my gandmother who passed away before my wedding, we danced to an old waltz tune that she used to sing to me when I was little. It was my way of having her near me on my special day.
