What was your first Job?

Besides babysitting...

When I was 15 I got a job with a family owned business that sold riding equipment and other things for keeping horses. We had people order and visit from all over the midwest. It was a wonderful first job because I got to do it all. I did warehouse work to start, then moved into phone orders, then moved to an associate and cashier in the store. I got hourly pay and also had commissions. It really got me a lot of different experiences at the same place.

I was a weekend paperboy for the Ventura County Star from age 8 to 11. I'd wake up super early, go to the printing warehouse, put the papers together (toss in inserts, ads, etc.), load them into the back of my dad's truck and he'd drive me around as I tossed them. I got paid $20 a weekend.

My first job as a teenager was packaging fishing lures into little boxes for individual sale. I'd take the lures, put them in the box, wrap a sticker around the box, then put them into larger boxes to be shipped off. I was 15ish at the time, and I'd work about 5 hours a week making about $100 a week. It was great. I worked from home since the business was owned by my family's accountant/friend. And since I didn't have a car or bills (insurance, gas) I just used it for lunch money, going out, video games, etc.

Taking in clothing that needed mending (repairing tears, replacing buttons, taking up hems, etc).

I was a carpenters helper at 16 in a building in Butler NJ. I was one of 2 girls and about 10 boys our age. I learned how to spackle, tape, paint and wallpaper. To this day i still do that in our house!

Taco Bell, ended up being there for around 5 years, with a year spent as a night manager (convinced me that I totally didn't want to do that forever!).

I could make 3 burrito supremes in 13 seconds... :rotfl:

Outside of working for different family members (small business owners)--my first job was Burger King. HATED it. Still don't eat at BK.

My parents owned a little grocery store and I worked there as young as 12 or 13 putting up stock, counting inventory, etc.

Then my grandmother and aunt re-opened a little fast food place/drive in that my grandparents had previously owned and I worked for them.

After BK, my parents had opened another store and my Mom put a hamburger/fried chicken take out place in it and I worked there.

Technically I was babysitting solo at 10, but my first job that did not involve chasing after kids was when I was 12.

I worked at an outdoor shooting range. It was my job to sit behind the shooters and push the button when they called out 'pull'.

As far as SS is concerned my first job was at Hardee's when I was 15.

Movie projectionist at the local theater.

held it for several years until I joined the military out of high school.

in the office of a music academy. schedualed instrumental/vocal lessons, sold music books, reeds, guitar strings....hell on earth is getting a shipment of metronomes and having to wind each one up and let it run down to ensure it's in proper working order:eek:

Working in my dad's warehouse. Him and my uncle had a plumbing company that my great-grandfather founded.

After that, I became a lifeguard -- much better job. :thumbsup2

I was a babysitting and then a nanny for a long time.

If that doesn't count, my first official paying job was as eye candy in a Porsche Parts dealership. I KNOW it is funny now, but I was quite the looker back in my late teens in college. I processed invoices by literally taking two pieces of paper and separating them into different piles, then filing each. But, there was a rivalry between two work locations for hottest office staff. Often, I would pose for pictures with a stapler and smile for no reason. That job lasted two months. I was laid off with 400 IN CASH and I thought I was the richest girl in the world.

I was 14, and worked in a place called Club Kids, sort of like a Discovery Zone type indoor playground. It was the only place I could find willing to hire a 14-year-old, even though state labor law allowed it.

I blew up helium balloons, worked at the arcade prize counter, and served pizza and cake at birthday parties. The kids at the birthday parties were usually only a little younger than me! :lmao:

After that I worked in a Wawa convenience store as a cashier and deli person until I moved away for university.

I had a paper route and babysat from 11 on. (didn't make enough to consider it a job)

My first real job was at 14. (It was stated I was 15 if anyone asked). I was a pharmacy tech, worked the instant bank, lottery machine, etc. By the time I was 16 I was working full-time throughout the store/Pharmacy.

I think back now to all I did at that age and think how no one that age now could get a job like that at all! Broke so many rules, but seriously finding good help in the store was almost impossible. I stayed until I was out of high school.

I started work as a CNA at the nursing home when I was 15 and continued off and on until I was 21. Shifts were 6am-2pm though I couldn't start till 7 when I was 15. If I did a bath shift, it started at 5:30 am. My mom was the DON so that is the only reason I got into that. It really was pretty hard work physically and just knowing what to do for 50+ residents and all their preferences. I did have the patience for it! Some days were pretty awful but I still have lots of good memories of the residents too.

I worked at a bakery. I gained much weight.

My best friend and I got a job at a bakery while in high school. They told us that we could eat anything we liked. So we would frost a donut and eat a donut frost a donut and eat a donut. You get the picture! We had to quit and didn't eat donuts for quite a while....:rotfl:
