What was your first car?

My first car was a 1972 Datsun 510 - powder blue - boy, those little cars were quick off the line! Not that I ever did any street racing, you understand.....

My next car was a 1971 Firebird Formula 400 - I had a blast with that car until the timing chain blew!

Mine was a 1977 AMC Hornet Sportabout station wagon! It was clean and I kept it looking good but there was a problem....it backfired.

I hated getting gas and having to turn the motor off. I wonder how many people thought someone was shooting at them.
:rotfl:

What a fun thread!

A '62 Ford Fairlaine that was ugly green. My grandpa bought it for me because he said I needed a car that was made out of metal instead of 'the crap they are makin' these days.' It was a 3 speed on the column. Since it was bought a year before I was able to drive, grandpa and my uncle 'played' with it for a while and it ended up being fire engine red and had a really good radio in it by the time I drove it. It was a tank and could fit so many. I ended up selling it when I was in college.

It was yellow outside and kelly green interior. Loved that car!! Blew the engine on it and left it at the garage. The garage sold it to the local fire department to use a practice car. They torched the heck out of that car. Used it for jaws of life practice too. Poor thing I teared up everytime I drove by it...

1989 (don't groan...I'm 29) Honda Civic

It was a great car...my parents bought it in 1998 as a graduation present. It constantly overheated in both the summer and winter. I called it the go-kart.

1990 Volkswagon Fox. It must of had a target ion it that said, "if you are uninsured and are in the country illegally, please hit me" By the end of college, everyone called it the silver bullet because it looked like a crushed beer can. I did finally get it all fixed, only two weeks later, have someone hit me and total it out. grrrr

A 1990 gray Dodge Spirit. It had belonged to my grandmother and when she got a new car, my dad took the old one for me. It reeked of cigarette smoke. My DH's first car was also a 1990 Dodge Spirit. It was white one though.

1988 Acura Integra LS Special. A hand me down from my dad and had about 180,000 miles on it when I got it. I drove it until I got in an accident that broke the hood latch and then couldn't drive on the highway anymore without the hood flying up.

I just got a mental picture of this! How scary!

I've only had two cars, my first I got about 7 years ago, and it was a green Ford Ka.

Obviously I would doubt many of you will know what the hell this tiny car is, so will add a picture (NB - this wasn't my car, mine was somehow worse looking!! :lmao: )

65 Ford Mustang. I wish I had it now. Have followed NASCAR since before I started driving. I wanted to be a mechanic and got a job doing that but my father put his foot down and said I wasn't going to be a mechanic.

I loved the '65 Mustang!

Mine was a used 1966 Ford Custom 500.....piece of crap, but it got me around for 2 years until I was able to buy something nicer.

'63 Mercedes 190sl hardtop convertable. It was used but yes I'm really that old:lmao:
I was in college and really needed a car. Ok, maybe I didn't need that car. I had the money but didn't know how to drive a stick. After borrowing my friends VW Bug for a weekend I was ready. :cloud9:

First car I bought all on my own was a 1972 Chevy Vega--with a big ole' racing stripe down the front hood. (I had no club about cars, obviously) I learned to drive in a 1965 Chevy Impala, later updated to sport an Earl Scheib $19.95 paint job.

My 1st car (bought used in 1984) was a 1978 Honda Prelude.

More interesting was the 2nd car I purchased in 1986, a 1980 Datsun 200 SX. It was a stick shift and my Dad had to drive it home because I bought it without knowing how to drive it. But I learned that night and drove it to work the next morning. :rotfl:

Inspired by Simon recent post announcing purchasing his first car, and knowing at at least Corey and Will may have some interest, I'm wondering what everybody's first car was.

I know I'm dating myself with mine, but most of you already realize how old I am already so;
1970 Porsche 914-6. Bought it used after I got out of the service in 1972.

I have you all beat, my first car was a lemon yellow 1985 Yugo, yes a brand spanking new 903cc engine 4-speed Yugo. I bought it in England while stationed their. I got that baby up to 85 once while going down hill, I thought it was going to shake apart. The spare tire was kept under the hood above the engine. :scared1:
