What was your favorite now closed disney resturant?

Adding my votes for:

- Seasons at the Disney Institue (unfortunately we found this one only shortly before they closed it)
- Safari Harry's at the Dolphin (a lot of interesting options like emu)
- Bonfamille's at PO (good place to eat while staying at Port Orleans)

I don't remember the name of the restaurant--it was in the Poly and where Kona is now. It would of been my first trip--Disney had just opened--and we stayed in Fort Wilderness campground. We were not a family that was able to eat out often. We got dressed up and went to the Poly for a special dinner. Had a burger with a piece of grilled pineapple--seemed very fancy to me.
Anyone remember the name of the place?

This was called the Coral Isle Cafe.

I was wondering why a Salad didn't come with our Steaks the last time we had dinner there and I had no idea it was because of the Dining Plan. At other Steak restaurants like Outback Steakhouse always include a Salad with their meal, so you think it would be standard.

And at Shula's -- Figure on spending close to $40 for a steak. And a steak is all you will get.

We just got back from WDW after not going for a year and a half (awesome trip, btw) and noticed that most, if not all, of the menus we read had changed - both to increase prices and to decrease options.

The one that had the biggest impact on our trip was the Mexican CS menu. No more combination platter. Sadly, that's the one meal in-park that we used to get excited about and look forward to. The remaining choices are ok, but not nearly as good as the combination platter.

I loved Food & Fun Center at CR. I always used to stay at the CR but since the renovations I moved to BC... I have never tried the new food court @ CR, though.

Dinner at Chef Mickey's before it was a buffet and when eating there entitled you to go up to the top floor of the Contemporary to watch the fireworks.

Also, breakfast at Garden Grill.

Chef Micky's when it was at DTD.

Another vote for Restaurant Akershus before princesses, before ordering entrees - when they had the enormous selection of authentic traditional Norwegian dishes buffet style. Also miss the hearty meals and variety pre-Cinderella at King Stefan's Banquet Hall! So miss the Adventure land Verandah, fried rice and eggrolls; the Melvin the Moose Breakfast and make your own pizza at night with the guy who played guitar and sang at Trails End at Fort Wilderness.

And who remembers the interactive kiosks at Epcot where we could make a ressie that day at any of the restaurants? Miss the variety of drinks, foods, seems like everything has been simplified and dumbed down to the lowest common denominator! :sad2:

The only place I ate Herring. And that is saying something.

Another vote for the Concourse Steakhouse. I've been trying to find a bread salad as good as I've had there but I can't. :(

I also miss the pre-princess Akershus. Now, it kind of sucks.

Another vote for the Empress Room on the Empress Lilly! We had our favourite waiter, Fred, who used to make flaming Spanish Coffees at the table. After the Empress Lilly closed, Fred worked as a waiter at Victoria and Albert's, and retired a few years ago.
I've never seen nicer Christmas decorations than the della robia (not sure I spelled that correctly) Christmas decorations they had in the Empress Room.

I remember a burger joint in the old Disney Village (DTD). It was located in the area that the lego store is now and there was a big 1970's looking orange slide/playgym right our front. Dad used to go in and get our food while mom stayed with us so we could play. Im sure it was not anything special but I remember those burgers and cokes with the paper straws were the best.

I miss the igloo at Epcot serving foreign sodas. I know it's now in a store, but i miss the igloo!

Alfredo's (the first WDW dinner my wife and I ever had)
Flagler's - Grand Floridian

J

We definitely miss the Concourse Steakhouse...still haven't tried out the Wave to see how it compares.

We enjoyed Alfredo's also.

And now (because I need to get a life), here's a summary of all now closed restaurants (or restaurant seatings) mentioned more than once:

29 Concourse Steakhouse
23 Bonfamilles
23 Spoodles
18 Empress Lilly (Empress Room/Steermans Quarters/Fishermans Deck)
15 Alfredos
15 Fireworks Factory
11 Top of the World (dinner show and brunch)
10 Papeete Bay Veranda
9 Chef Mickey's (marketplace edition)
9 Tangaroa Terrace
7 Adventureland Veranda
6 Ariel's
6 Fiesta Fun and Food Center
6 Town Square Café (incl. Tony's for (B) )
5 Crockett's Tavern
4 Boatwrights (B)
4 Coral Isle Café
4 Garden Grill (B, L)
4 Gourmet Pantry
4 Gulf Coast Room
4 Minnie Mia
4 Odyssey
3 Artist Point (B)
3 Aunt Pollys
3 Diamond Horseshoe
3 FW Character Breakfast (Melvin the Moose, Chip n Dale)
3 Harry's Safari Grille
3 Narcoosee's (L)
3 Pure and Simple
3 Seasons
3 Soundstage Restaurant
2 Au Petit Café
2 Flagler's
2 Goofy's Grill
2 Jolly Hollidays Show
2 Magnolia Room
2 Matsunoma Lounge
2 Merriweather's Market
2 Pueblo Room

A number of posters specified "Empress Lilly", but that was a boat rather than a specific restaurant. Since I didn't know how else to treat that, I combined its three restaurants into one line.

And a tally of all restaurants that are still open, but significantly changed - looking for more than just a menu change here:

14 Tusker House (cs)
12 King Stefan's / Cinderella's Royal Table (pre-princess)
8 Akershus (pre-princess)
7 Crystal Palace (cafeteria)
4 Farmers Market
3 Garden Gallery
2 Hollywood and Vine
2 Minnie's Menehune Breakfast

Thanks for bringing back fond memories. They used to have a drink that was served in a plastic shaped orange and a little straw stuck in it. I think this would be mine as well.

I miss pre-princess Akershus. Back when it was a 'cold table' and you could order as many of the entrees as you wanted off the menu but all were small enough that you didn't feel like a glutton.

I miss the igloo at Epcot serving foreign sodas. I know it's now in a store, but i miss the igloo!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

And I really REALLY miss Concourse.

#5 - larger food court at Sunshine Seasons

#4 - Aunt Polly's

#3 - pre-princess Askerhus

#2 - Diamond Horseshoe

#1 restaurant experience that I miss: at one time the Rose & Crown closed betewen lunch & dinner, and during that period they offered a single seating of a REAL English tea. Not a-la-carte PB&J like the GF has now: the real thing. Endless tea, real scones with clotted cream followed by sandwiches followed by desserts, all unlimited. We did this in 1991. Next trip was in 2000 and it was gone. :sad1:

+1 for Bonfamilles (I remember 2 GREAT meals there), Jolly Holiday show, Top of the World dinner show, Diamond Horseshoe, and Artist Point breakfast (where you used to be able to meet Meeko).

I miss Concourse Steakhouse's breakfast and Adventureland Veranda. Spoodles was also one of our favorites - we would always share a bunch of appetizers. But during our last meal there in August 2008, the food was homogenized and disgusting, so I wasn't too sad to see it go.

The one restaurant I wish I could have tried is Ariel's. I definitely think BC could use a signature restaurant (the other TS restaurants at YC/BC don't do it for us), and the restaurant is still there and looks beautiful. Plus I love seafood.
