I hope I am not overstepping here but I thought it might be helpful if us somewhat new first time mommies told you guys what items we found we could not live without. I had my mommy board post a list like this and it was soooo helpful. So I thought it might help you guys with the up coming registry and purchases.

My 3 could not do without things were:

1. A video baby monitor. That way I could put him down in his room but still see him while I was on the computer, cleaning, or watching TV. Me and DH agree this was our best purchase.

2. Our bumbo seat. At about 3 months he could sit in it and I had a little hands free time. It was also great for the beach so he didnt get all sandy.

3. The diaper genie thingy. Could not live without this.

So what is that thing you could not have done without!!!

One of those vibrating baby seats. :thumbsup2 I'd put DD in it and she would be happy as a clam. :goodvibes

The swing! Our turned from swinging front to back to swinging side to side. It was a lifesaver.

Both my kids loved their baby swings.
You will hear this many times from us older parents, but I have to say it anyway........enjoy every day because it goes so fast and you can't get those first years back. Yes, there will be frustrations but that's life.
Also, be a parent not a friend. Your child will have many friends but only one mom and one dad.
I think the two of you will be fantastic parents!!!

Do they make these for adults?

Why yes they do. :)

Take lots of pictures because as a previous poster said they grow up so fast. Also there is always going to be somebody that thinks the way you parent is wrong. What they think doesn't matter. If it works for you and your family than it is what is best. I worried a lot about that with my first not so much with my second.

The Exersaucer by Graco I think... Kinda of like a walker, but didn't really move, just wobbled a bit. I could put my DD in there when she was about four months old, put it just outside the bathroom door, and I was able to take a nice long shower... and Moms know how rare nice long showers are. She was so amused and content in that thing... it was a lifesaver! She loved it til she was about a year, but then she learned to walk and never wanted to be in it! Hasta la bye bye to the nice long showers :sad2:

Forgot to add one of those shopping cart covers. Your baby will only have to suck on a grocery cart one time and you will be at Babies R Us buying one. Nasty nasty nasty, I still use it and he is 3 now.

I couldn't live without the remote controlled Pooh themed lullaby light pillow thingy that my wonderful aunt and uncle discovered for me after a tearful plea for a nap. I could put it near my daughter's crib and control it from the comfort of my bed! Yep that's right! She got over needing a bottle every 2 hours, but was still in the habit of waking. It played for about 10 minutes and would shut off automatically. It was great.

Now on to what the baby will probably love...

Mylicon drops & Hyland's Holistic Teething Tablets (Walgreens & WalMart)

Hope this helps!

Duct tape. Instant Babysitter.

Benadryl. Instant nap and resultant "Couples time..." :rotfl:

Boppy pillow.

Can also be used in conjunction with the duct tape and Benadryl.

I mentioned this on another thread, but the Outside Baby diaper bags and Skip Hop bags are the best! Forego the foofy trendy ones made with silk and other fancy materials. I let my hubby pivk it out since he had to carry it, too. He liked the Outside Baby messenger bag, which has additional straps that you can use to mount it low on the back "legs" of the stroller for additional storage and better balance - it won't tip over lighter strollers.

There's a really cool new baby bottle out there, too. Made by ThinkBaby, it has a different nipple shape, a more natural "suck feel", and is a nice "green" alternative. We got one from being on the ELLEN mother's day show (along with a crapload of other cool stuff....) and our youngest loves it!

I agree about slings - I've had many! You just have tyo find the type that is right for you. I like the "fixed shape" ones - you buy those according to your body size and height. If you guys are about the same size, one will do. If not, then you need two. My favorites of those were New Native and the Rockin Baby Pouch. The Rockin one actually had zippers built in to adjust the size, making it a "fixed style" that could be used by more than one body type. They have really cool patterns and are reversible to a different pattern or a solid. On the other hand, my husband liked the ones with the D rings. I had problems with those sliding - could never get it right by myself, when it counted. He used Rockin Baby Shop's regular sling, cool retro pattern reversible to a solid.

Now that they are older, we've moved into the Ergo Baby backpack/front carrier. Works great as a backpack and no strain. The front carrier is really cozy. Much better for your back than the Bjorns and puts their legs in a more comfy position.

And yes - everyone will give you too much advice! You should have seen the looks we got taking the oldest baby to DL when she was a week or so old. In the sling, people won't even notice you have a little one and it is much less intrusive - people won't get into your personal space as much when you wear the sling.

Well, first post ever, but watch boards and always listen to podcast. Anyhoo, I agree with the baby swing. I was given a baby swing from my friend, it was slightly used, had a crank, no bells and whistles at all but it didn't matter, it did the job. The other thing that I learned very early on was that Pull-Ups were a big waste. My kids didn't care that these things were supposed to work like underwear, they just thought, "Well looky, looky at my nice, new fancy diapers. Underwear and not giving up, that is the only thing that worked for me. The same held true even with my youngest, who is autistic and we just FINALLY had success with potty training her at the age of 6.:woohoo:

Hey, I just realized, potty training is waaaay far off for Julie & Corey
