I'm helping to plan a party and the theme is "80's High School Reunion set to "feel" like an 80's Prom". So I need some ideas for decorations, food, etc. Also, we want to have an official "theme" for the prom (like "A Night to Remember...or something really cheesy). Do you remember your prom theme from your 80's prom?

So far for decorations I have:

balloon arch (for prom pictures)
balloons all over the floor
streamers
glittery stars hanging from the ceiling
a bulletin board where guests will place a picture of themselves from the 80's with a title "Where are they now?"
HS pennants and school banners (we'll make fake ones from felt)
Old yearbooks
Pom Poms
A few trophies....
lots of 80's music

What else?

Also, I need a signature drink that is very 80's (either that or we'll just spike the punch!)

Maybe some movie posters from classic 80's movies?
I am drawing a blank on the prom theme right now!

Our prom theme was "Time of My Life" (think theme from Dirty Dancing).

How's that for '80s cheesy?

Last May I had "prom" for our neighborhood friends. It was a blast! I sent out invitations and asked girlfriends if they would like to help & be on the prom committee. I had one big rule. You had to actually wear your old prom or bridesmaid dress. If you were unfortunate enough to not have it in your possesion anymore, then you had to go to the local good will store and purchase one. If the dress looked like it was close to being recent we had a rack of extra ones by the door to borrow for the night. We had ladies that had them on and closed the back of the dress with shoe laces and duck tape. Hey it stayed up and it didn't fall down. ( And they could still say that they were able to fit into the old prom dress again)We had a great neighbor DJ and he had all the great music. We tried to go with an obnoxious theme but instead went with "We got tonight". I ordered some really cool things from promnite . com and did alot of the same decorations as you suggested. As for a drink we did have a punch spiked with everclear (remember that stuff!) and lots of beer and vodka. (remember the bottles of vodka & rum some would sneak in to prom? It was easy to add to soda) We had so much fun, it was the talk of the neighborhood for a while. Oh we also pulled all of the furniture out of the living & family room so we could have a dance floor in one room and tables set out to socialize at in the other room. Have fun!

The two themes I remember from my proms were "Stairway to Heaven" and "In the Air Tonight"

Sounds like fun!

My theme (1986) was "One More Night" - it's an 80's song by I can't remember who!

I would do a "do you remember" wall and put pics (or actual) on there - leg warmers, oxford shirts with sweaters over, parachute pants, leggings (yikes, they're back!), Member's Only jackets, aqua net hairspray, etc.

My prom theme (1982) was "Through the Years" (Kenny Rogers). I don't think you can get much cheesier. I'm trying to remember my brother's theme (1984).

ETA: I think his was "Follow You Follow Me" (Genesis)

my prom theme (1989) was "just for a moment", which was the love theme from "st. elmo's fire". LAME. i voted for "never say goodbye" by bon jovi, lol. i forget what DH's was.

note: "one more night" was a song by phil collins (could have been while he was with genesis).

My prom theme from 1989 was "Wonderful Tonight", the Eric Clapton song.
