...with your own savings?

Mine would be my very first car. I saved up like mad and paid for my own driving lessons in it too. :smooth:

As soon as I started earning money for myself I started to save regularly by putting money aside each month. This was automatically transferred into a Savings Account by my Bank.

How about you?

That would be my first house., it was a condo. I was 19, not quite 20 when I bought it.

Mine was my first car too. I missed having a car during my first year at university so I worked really hard during weekends and holidays to buy one to go back to my second year at university in. I did the same too, put my wage into a savings account.

I paid out my mother's mortgage with my signing bonus when I got my first post-college job. She'd gone without for a lot of years so that we could go "with", and I wanted her to benefit. That was really cool, handing her the paperwork to surprise her. Maybe one of the coolest moments of my life.

My first car, too.

I saved money from babysitting, odd jobs, my first real job in high school, and paid cash for it.

Believe it or not...

I bought my Mother a new pair of dentures after she had the same pair for about 20 some odd yrs and they broke and had holes in them and she could not afford them herself....

It made me happy that I could do that for her! ::yes::

Bought my first car when I was 17, I worked for a year at a day care afterschool to save up the "required" downpayment amount that dad had decided I needed before we could do it.

Bought a sporty Mazda MX3, 1 year old.

First big purchase was a Geo Metro ($3000) but mom helped out. So that doesn't count.

Next big one is my condo in 97. Boy that really empty our pockets.

Then is DVC. Then is our current condo.

Gold Kruger rands, ever time i had enough money i just bought some. Last time i checked with the bank i had 1,233 of them.

Dang. That is just so nice it brought tears to my eyes. What a remarkable DD you are, Dana, sounds like your Mom is pretty extraordinary too. :)

My first purchase was a car. A 1969 Chevy Camaro. I was 17. Sure wish I still had that car. I put up with a lot of crap as a waitress in a nasty diner to get that car, but it was well worth it. I had it well into my 20's, and it was over 10 years old when I bought it.

I'll tell you a little story so we can all appeciate how times have changed. It was Christmas 1954 - my parents' first married Christmas. My mom was working full time at a bank while my dad was in graduate school. Mom bought them a TV for a Christmas present - she opened a charge account at the local store and was going to pay for it over time. Three weeks later the store came and repossessed the TV when they realized that the only income came from my mom and that my dad wasn't working. You see, 50 years ago, a married woman's income totally did not count and married women could not get credit!

Half of my college education! Actually, my first purchase over $100 was my gold class ring in my junior year of high school. Lots of hours of babysitting for that ring (that was then stolen in college ! :( )........................P

My first college tuition check - I was 17 and I still remember the feeling of writing that check. My parents gave me lots of money for college, but after I'd used up my own.

My Explorer, Danielle.....she was my 21st birthday present to myself :)
