We've never been to Disneyland and are possibly planning a 2009 trip. We just recently returned from our WDW trip and is the people mover similar to the Tomorrowland Transit Authority? Why did they get rid of it? Does anyone have any old pics to post. THANKS!:3dglasses

Ouch, I really miss the People Mover! WDW's MK has a version of the PM, the TL Transit Authority or something. It's not as cool as the old DL PM but atleast it exists in some form.

I loved how it used to go through the Inner Space (Star Tours area now) area and the TL gift shop and best of all was it's visit into Space Mountain.

In a best case scenario they would rebuild the PM (can't use existing tracks anymore as they won't pass code) and bring back America Sings and The Country Bears and the Keel Boats too!

I wish they would not only bring back the People Mover but also Adventures Through Inner Space! And I miss America Sings too! People Mover was so great to ride after a big meal, when you needed to feel like you were doing something but needed the time for the food to settle in your stomach! It was good, long relaxing ride and I get very melancholy when I look at all my photos and video footage filmed of us on the PM. I realize it was sort of futuristic in a 'retro' way, and it doesn't quite fit in with the current Disney motif anymore, but I loved it. And I loved ATIS, where you 'shrink' when you go through the microscope thingie! I really miss that ride! I even liked the Motor Boats, as that was a nice little romantic ride if you brought a date! I dont miss the Skyway Buckets though. I miss seeing it, but not riding it! I am not a big 'heights' person, especially when dangling from a cable!

I'll second that! I guess this is dating us...I remember those good old days too!

The main causes for the closure of Inner Space and the People Mover was because they were just too high maintenance, especially Inner Space. That ride was just a breeding ground for trouble. Anything illegal/immoral you can think of that people can do...it was done on Inner Space. And riders of the People Mover were injured VERY often. It was often their own stupid faults (jumping between cars caused multiple deaths) but Disney was sick of lawsuits. Lawsuits were also a main reason the Skyway was brought down.

It sucks we have to sacrifice good rides because the stupidity of DL visitors. :(

It was slow and kind of relaxing and scary when it went inside thru the TRON part. I loved the peek at Space Mountain...and that there was usually never a line for it

here's a few pics..

I like looking at old pics and seeing how people dressed back in the days... Slacks and collard shirts for the men and sun dresses for the ladies.... My how times have changed!!!

I know - I recall being on Inner Space and the some of the people I rode with were trying to create some shenanigans inside the ride. Then again, several people I know have been up to mischief inside certain rides that are still around in the park! But I loved it anyway! The People Mover, while it was a long, great and relaxing post-dinner ride (I actually wish it had gone all the way around the park and not just TL), it seemed just ripe for lawsuits and injuries to me. As you said, it was mostly the fault of the stupid people who tried to jump out of it or in between cars, but still. Same thing with the Skyway buckets. I think the Motor Boats broke down a lot, but they were great for a nice romantic ride at dusk with a date.

I would say that, just from what I hear, it seems 70% of amusement park (not just Disney) accidents or even deaths are not the fault of the park itself. They are usually caused by stupid people not reading the signs or disobeying rules or trying to do something daring. Of course, sometimes terrible things happen and it is the fault of the park. There was a HORRIBLE death at Six Flags in Georgia a few weeks ago where the victim - who died too gruesomely to even mention right now - was blatantly disobeying KEEP OUT/DANGER signs when he hopped a fence. And he paid with his life. Big time. But I bet you anything that his family will still try to find a way to sue the park even though it clearly was not their fault.

Inner Space was my favorite ride when I was little! Loved that big eye! I sure had no idea of anything going on in there! Loved the People Movers too. I remember the line to get on went along some pictures on the wall of the "car of the future". It showed a family relaxing and playing checkers on a table while the car drove. I'm still waiting for that one! :rotfl:

That Mini Van was released last year. Had a center table all seats swiveled to the table people playing checkers, playing cards, eating, I thought it was the most dangerous thing I ever saw!!!

They had the same pictures in the queue for Rocket Rods. I should know, I waited hours to ride those things.

But did it drive itself? ;)
