What was the most disappointing attraction closing?

Not really a "ride" per se, but I miss Discovery Island. That was VERY cool. When we went for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary, we even saw a "NIon school" group (with the Disney Institute) with the most amazing camera equipment doing photo shoots of the birds and such.

I really miss that.

World of Motion and Delta dreamflight, alothough I do love Buzz.

Also, what was the most disappointing rehab closing?

Don't remember if it was rehabed, but when they closed the Garden Grill while putting in Soaring, and than they changed the menu. :( (don't fix what's not broken)

I think it was Delta Dreamflight, and as you went through you were flying with the birds and over different terrains.

I believe Delta Dreamflight started off being "If You Had Wings" with Eastern Airlines....the official airlines of WDW at the time. When EA went out of business, then it became Delta Dreamflight.

Does anyone remember the song..."If you had wings"....it played throughout the ride. Wow, those were the days. ;)

"If you had wings" opened in 1972. In June of 1987, Eastern airline withdrew it's sponsorship, which required several changes. Later that month, it reopened as "If you could fly". The ride was basically unchanged, but the music was changed, and all references to Eastern were removed. In January of 1989, the ride was gutted, rebuilt, and the ride was reopened in June of 1989 as "Delta Dreamflight", who was the "official" airline of WDW at the time. And of course, Buzz is now in that spot.

Alien Encounter!!! I loved that! Stitch's great adventure is rubbish in comparison! Its similar, but different and I wouldnt waste my time going on it again.

I wish i had gone on 20k. We went in 95 for the first time and it was broken! I always vowed i would go on it, but sadly its gone now :(

I really miss River Country, lot of fun times, also is the Penny Arcade still on main street?? I don't remeber seeing it last time I was there

I searched in vain for the Penny Arcade last trip...Main Street is now wall to wall retail. My sister finally found the penny machines at the monorail station :sad2:

I miss Horizons.....as a matter of fact, I miss the "old" Epcot, period...Horizons, JIYI(the original), World of Motion, etc. What I'd do to have it ALL back.

Horizons for me - I loved the smell of oranges when you went past the orange grove and I loved the end part where you could pick your own "adventure" land, sea, air etc. That was always fun to see what the other people in your car would pick and see what you would get to see.

I also loved Mission to Mars - I thought that was a really cool ride as well!

I think it's clear what my biggest disappointment was. Luckily I can still visit him nearby...

Other than that, I'd say Horizons and Food Rocks. I miss the Cher-impersonating fish most of all. Come back, Cher-fish!!!

Do Shows count? My whole family really misses the Hunchback show at MGM. It was such a great live show.

Does anybody else remember and miss the old Disneyland attractions?

I went to yesterland.com and got caught in waves of nostalgia for:

Rainbow Caverns Mine trains
the pack mule ride
Skull Rock
Journey into Inner Space (trip into the atom)
The Indian village
The Tahitian Terrace Show

I too miss the smell of oranges in Horizons. I understand that there is a segment in the Soarin' ride where they put in the smell of oranges. Hey, maybe they took smellinizer out of Horizons and put it in Soarin'. :teeth:

20,000 Leagues, I got a disney pop up book when I was around 5 and when we finally went that was one of the rides I had to see, I was sure the squid was going for our sub.

If You Had Wings was the first one I thought of. But now that someone mentioned them, the Tapestry of Nations is soooo missed and the electric light parade at MK. I loved that one.

OH!! Does anyone else remember when a band called Tobasco used to play at Cosmic Ray's? They wore skin tight shiny outfits and my friends and I LOVED them.

Please tell me someone else remembers!!

MK- Sky way ride
Mr Toad
Original Tiki Room

Epcot- Food Rocks - I loved this show!!!!!!!!

I miss the Electrical parade. In 96 when they discontinued it at Disneyland they sold VHS tapes of it, my kids love to watch it. They'll get to see Spectro for their first trip this Oct, I hope think they'll know the difference though, they're 3 and 1

At Epcot, it was World Of Motion for me, too. Actually it wasn't so much the ride itself, as seeing the vehicles moving in front as you walked up to the attraction. Somehow that always brought me back to my childhood when I first saw that attraction at the New York World's Fair in the 60's. I think it's so sad how attractions that were first at the World's Fair are now being discontinued-Skyway (not surprisingly, my biggest disappointment to closing at MK), CoP is on limited hours. Are the dinosaurs in Universe of Energy all that's left from the Fair?

World of Motion was not at the NY Worlds Fair. Disney produced four shows for the 1964-65 World's Fair: Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln (built for the State of Illinois Pavilion), Progressland (built for GE), The Magic Skyway (for the Ford Pavilion), and It's a Small World (sponsored by the Pepsi Cola Company, with the proceeds to benefit UNICEF). The skyway at MK was not the skyway at the fair. I think the dinosaurs may be at Disneyland.

I hated to see Horizons and Dream Flight closed. I loved both of those rides. They were must do's on every trip. Man I wish they would come back.
