What was the last book you read that made you cry?

I've just finished 'The Chamber' by John Grisham. All the way through I've been saying to my husband how depressing it has been, he just said to stop reading it if it was that bad:rolleyes:

Anyway, I got to the end of it this evening, having been so captivated by it as it went along, and it was unbeleivably sad, I was sobbing out loud. I just wondered whether I was losing the plot or do other people get affected by reading books and what has made you cry???

I cry through books all the time. Have to say, it does depend on the time of the month though ;)

I even have books I read especially when I feel like having a good cry.. Can't remember the last one that made me cry though, I've been on a reading jag lately which means 5 books a week so there all a bit muddled in my mind!

Little Women usually works for me though!

Oh no you’re not alone, I’ve cried at lots of books and as I always read on the train to and from work this can be quite embarrassing

Two books in particular I have read this year that really moved me to tears were ‘The Lovely Bones’ and ‘Nobody True’ but one of the saddest but sweetest books I’ve ever read was ‘Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas’ by James Patterson.

I don't read soppy/romantic books, but the last time I had a tear in my eye was when I was reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Cedric Diggory had been killed by Lord Voldemort and Harry was transporting his body back and he wouldn't let go of him and we realised that Professor Dumbledore couldn't bring him back to life.

Very Sad (not sure if thats the story or me)

Man's Search for Meaning by Vicktor Frankl.

My most recent weep at the end of a book was The Lovely Bones as mentioned by Annmarie. The one that gets me every time though is the Remorseful Day by Colin Dexter. Fans will know this is the final Inspector Morse book :( reduces me to tears every time!

The lovely bones also made me cry - superb book.

My other "weepy" is P.S. I love you by Cecelia Aherne, it's a real rollercoaster book. One minute you're laughing out loud and the next you're weepy.

A weepy I have read is 'Empty Cradles' - made even more sad because it is true.

It is all about children who were fostered or in care for various reasons in England, but without the permission of their parents were shipped to Australia to help 'populate' the country. In most cases their parents were told they had been adopted to good families in England, but in reality they were mostly in childrens homes half way round the world:sad:

The last book that made me cry was a large atlas - when I dropped it on my foot!
