After all my trips to Disney before this closed I don't think I ever did this... What exactly was it?

It was my favorite Epcot ride when I was a kid. It was about the future, in particular about different habitats, like space, underwater, desert, etc. My favorite part when I was a kid was where everybody in your car voted for which scene you wanted at the end of the ride.

If I could pick one ride to come back, this would be it.

I also loved that ride as a kid. We had to ride it multiple times to choose all the different scenes.

My favorite part of Horizons was when you passes the Orange grove, and could actually smell the oranges.

I've heard there's a place on Soarin' where you can smell oranges in a similar manner. Anyone know if that's true?

Yes you do smell the oranges on Soarin'....i loved that part of Horizons!!!

GRRRRR!!! I am mad cause I never had the opportunity to ride it. That looked to be a cool ride, just like some of my other favs..

That was one of my whole family's favorite rides.
I really miss it :sad2:

It was such a relaxing, fun, family ride. I really miss it too. Anyone know whey they decided to get rid of it?

They lost sponsorship

There's other rumors that a sinkhole was forming underneath the ride but i dont think thats ever been confirmed.

Of all of the old attractions I miss, that one hit the hardest...it was to me, the most inspiring and memorable of all of the classic Epcot rides and the park to me hasn't been the same without it.

hey was this the ride with a michael jackson  video in it? it was so long ago, and i remember something with michael jackson when i was very little, went so many times when i was young, and then all of a sudden that ride was gone.

***edit...perhaps i am thinking of an older version of the land. i dunno. :)

I DO remember riding Horizons
How long ago did it stop? trying to place the year(s) I rode it

My DH is STILL upset that it's gone. It was a cheesy, but way cool ride at the end. "Space" was my favorite, felt like you were floating! I (we) still prefer that feeling to "Mission: Space" that replaced it.

Maybe you are thinking of the 3-D movie Captain EO? It was in the Journey into Imagination pavilion. I think Honey I Shrunk the Audience is there now.

That was a 3D show, now replaced by Honey I Shrunk the Audience.... imagine if they kept it... :rotfl: Wouldn't be too popular!

This thread is bringing back such memories. I loved it so much - it was my mom's favorite ride. She loved the part where it "threw you out into space." Her words exactly. I rode it back in 1983 and of course again and again when me and my DH started going in 1994. I liked the Easy Living scene with the guy getting a shave and haircut and the cat drinking spilled milk, and of course the oranges...loved smelling the oranges in the dessert grove. The "choose your landing" was so cool. I'm sure it would seem outdated if we did it again, but I wouldn't care. I agree with another poster that the park isn't the same without Horizons. More than any other pavillion, Horizons really represented "Future World." Perhaps it could have been "Updated" vs. demolished. It's hard to keep up with the future.

Rather than Mission Space, I'd love to have it back.

I am surprised that they have not done anything with the building. It would be cool to go in now and see if it still looks the same.
