Waitlist question

If I waitlist something and it becomes available do they automatically book it or do they alert you first?

Whenever the waitlist system picks up that the room is available, it will book it. It is not automatic though as I have been able to book what I ad waitlisted before the system recognized it was available.

The only notification given is when you get your reservation has been cancelled email and you almost have a heart attack so you login and see that your waitlist fulfilled.
