What would be the best month for our UY if we always want to go in May? We want to own but we are still doing all the research..There is so much to learn!!

I think the "best", is a use year shortly before you usually travel. For example, we used to always go in August, and June worked well for us. I think it has to do with you plan your trip 11 months out (maybe), and it is useful to book with points you just "got", so if you change your plans, you have more time to do so, within that year. And you are less likely to have to borrow to make those plans, and then cancel and then those points are current year points, etc.

Please, my mind is now in a fog about how to explain this better…. any use year works, of course.

If you always visit in may, April is the best by far then counting backwards to March then Feb. June is the worst.

Thanks everyone:)....May is the ideal time for us to go. If we can't go in May then late September/early October is our second favorite time to visit. We went in early fall 2013 and have our next trip planned for Sept. 2015 only b/c the price of the resort is cheaper...One more question--Going by the point chart for 2014 it says we would need 255 pts for one week in May at AKV. We like to stay 9 nights Friday-the following Sunday so how many more points would I need to have? I saw that it's 40 points for fri-sat, is that 40 more points a day if it's on a fri or sat night? So I'm adding 80pts to the 255? This part is confusing to me. We want to buy enough points to go every other year. I was thinking to buy 160 points each year(320pts to use every other year) but I don't think that will be enough for 9 nights in a bedroom at AKV.

Yes, it is 40 more pts per day for Fri/Sat. It would be 335 total (255+80). Personally, I try to avoid extra weekend dates. It's not worth it to me for the premium.

You're looking at Standard View it appears. Personally I'd look at SSR for this situation resale. You should have no problems reserving standard view AKV at 7 months out, the points will be maybe 10-20% cheaper to buy and the annual dues will be somewhat less. SSR as I laid out will likely be around the same or less than AKV points for value most trips. My suggestion is to look at around 170-200 points SSR likely better than AKV in this situation. That gives you a small cushion in case they change the points and in case you want to go for Savannah view, a higher season or another resort.

The penalty isn't near what it used to be. IMO weekends are actually undervalued compared to weekdays.
