Hey scrapbookers, I have been hand scrapbooking for about 9 years now and love it. However, I have become very interested in digital scrapbooking after seeing what others have done with it. I am considering switching to just digital scrapbooking since I have tried a few pages and enjoyed it. I also like the fact that you can make as many adjustments as you want before its printed and you don't need to worry about embellishments coming loose.

Anyway, I wanted to ask those who have down hand scrapbooking in the past but now do digital, do you do hand and digital, just digital, or are there people that just prefer hand. I am asking bc I am considering selling my scrapbook supplies on craiglist or something but it is hard to part with them. I would scan anything i could to use in my digital scrapbooking, but I am still unsure whether I should make a full change to digital. I would love to get an idea of where scrapbookers opinions lie on digital vs. hand. I have included the poll above but additional comments would be appreciated. Also for those that did make a switch to digital and don't do by hand anymore, what did you do with your scrapbook supplies? (keep or get rid of?)

I already spend too much time on the computer! I NEED the tactile feel of cutting paper.

I just started digi-scrapping this year. I plan to keep doing both, but right now, I have been doing more digital than paper scrapping. I think I will continue to do both. They each fill different needs for me!

For me it is paper......I find it gives me a different type of relaxation. Also since I am totally computer challanged I would find very hard to do all digital stuff. I get frustrated very easy when it comes to the pc.
But....where I wold love to have the digital skill would be those digital books from shutterfly. I usually give my mom one each year for Christmas. It would be so nice to have the pages look pretty and have the ability to use different sized photos.....but for this to happen someone is going to have to come and sit with me. I try and read how but it doesn't sink in.....

What part of PA are you in? Maybe we're neighbors and I could give you a lesson or two!

If you had asked me this question about a year ago I would have said that I had no interest in digital scrapbooking. I thought that I would never be interested in giving up paper, scissors, paper cutters and embellishments.

However, I began to notice that when I would look at galleries on scrapbooking sites, my eye would go directly to digital pages. So, that peaked my interest, but I knew that until I got a new computer, digital scrapbooking would only be frustrating for me (my computer was a dinosaur!).

I got that new computer at the beginning of August and in just the last few weeks, began to explore digital scrapbooking. I downloaded a free trial version of PSE and took an online course to learn how to use it. NOW I'M HOOKED! I absolutely LOVE it! So much so, that I have recently listed quite a bit of my tradtional scrapbooking supplies that I have been hoarding on e-bay. I'm not getting rid of everything, because I still may want to use my paper goodies once in a while, but at this point, I see myself doing mostly digi-scrapping. The ability to re-size photos and change elements out quickly and easily really has me hooked. And I love the ability to quickly and easily share my pages with family and friends too!

I love the look of a lot of the digital pages, and while I love the tactile feel of traditional scrapping, I can see the appeal of digital also. So in theory, I can see myself branching into that down the line. But there's 2 reasons it won't be any time soon - #1 I have WAY too much $$ invested in all the product in my scraproom - I think it would take me years to go through it all! And #2 I think I would need a faster computer to get into digital. I did do a few pages to try it out and it literally took me HOURS because my computer couldn't seem to handle all the layers. But like I said, maybe someday!

I'm strictly a paper scrapper right now, but have thought about doing my boys' pages in digital. I just don't know if I'll ever make the switch, though. It's just a something I've toyed with, even though I'm completely clueless where digital is concerned. LOL

I agree with someone who said that I spend enough time on the computer and I really love to feel, touch, etc.... and paper scrap!

This is similar to my story... I have a ROOM full of traditional scrap supplies and 15+ completed traditional albums on my shelves.. I like traditional scrapbooking a lot, but I discovered digi scrapping about a year ago and, I LOVE IT. I am totally hooked. It is a huge creative outlet for me ... much more so than traditional scrapping ever was. I thought I would miss working with the papers and the tools, etc., but I totally don't. You can do all of that stuff in digi plus TONS more. I have a few traditional projects I want to finish, but I will never go back....Digi scrapping all the way for me! :goodvibes

Edit - As far as my traditional supplies.... I have downsized a lot. (Sold some stuff on Ebay). But, I can't yet bring myself to part with everything. I keep thinking I may want to use some of the stuff for cards or the kids' school projects. I also print many of my 12x12 pages and slide them into my kids' albums so that I can also incorporate some of their school papers and other memorabilia...

You know, the other thing that I love about digi is that for some reason, I do a much better job of journaling than I did with traditional scrapping. I don't know if that's because it's all right there at my fingertips or what.... I even had my handwriting made into a font-- LOL! -- so that some of my "real" handwriting could get into my kids' LOs.. although, in all honesty, I don't really use it that much because my handwriting is kind of ugly. LOL!

I only started scrapbooking this summer with the paper supplies I had been hoarding for 2-3 years! I can't imagine how long it would take me to be brave enough to try the next frontier! Love the paper stuff, cutting, gluing, very therapeutic. It did make me realize I needed reading mild reading glasses, though!

I've been doing hand (paper) scrapbooking since Jnauary 2000 and I absolutely love it, I love getting my hands on everything, it just makes me feel so creative and is just a fun hobby :) This year though, DH and I are adopting and our agency needs a profile book of us and our life, which is basically a scrapbook, so I sat down and started doing our book digitally (thanks to a lot of help from girls on the DIS and the digital thread with all the links to free stuff!). I have to admit I'm having a lot of fun with it! I know I'll never go completely digital - I have WAY too much paper stuff in my craft room and I have WAY too much fun using paper - but I will probably keep doing some digital even after this project is completed.

I am a paper person all the way. I just love the relaxation I get sitting down and putting a page together. Besides I already spend way too much time on the computer. I have no plans to go digital in the future either. I have way too much invested in all my scrapbooking supplies. And I would miss shopping for all those supplies way too much!!! :lmao: Good luck with the switch!!

I'm so glad the OP asked this - I've been toying with the idea, too.

What is PSE, please?

PSE= Photoshop Elements, a smaller version of Photoshop that is MUCH cheaper. It's a very popular program among digital scrappers.

I received a Digital Scrapbook program for Christmas about 3 years ago and tried it once but my computer was WAY too slow to handle it. I now have a Mac and it doesn't work on there anyway. I love to hand scrap but would be interested in digital. I just have NO CLUE where to start. Where would you print? Can you print 12x12 pages???

I have so many paper products that I would feel guilty by not using them. It might be YEARS before I can switch.

PS - This is my first time on this board so if you could point me in the right direction, that's great!

Welcome. :) I know you can buy printers that actually print in 12 x 12 now, but they are quite expensive.... I have been printing my 12 x12 prints through scrapbookpictures.com and have been very happy with the quality. I prefer the matte finish over the glossy. They are $3.49 per print with a $2 flat rate shipping regardless of number of prints ordered, and they frequently have sales for $2.49 per print. Here's the website. http://www.scrapbookpictures.com/SBPView.jsp
