We are going back to WDW and have quite a few character meals planned.
What type of questions do you ask the characters to get a lot of interaction from them?
We have CRT, Crystal Palace and the Ice Cream Social planned and will have a 13 year old with us.
Thanks for your suggestions! :D

It is not always so easy to hear when you are a character. Often it is best to have a "pin" or a plush of the character. They can easily react to that since they are all mute. Wear something of theirs.

Its one suggestion.

A sure-fire way of getting a lot of interaction from Chip & Dale is to confuse the two and call them by their wrong name. Or tell Chip that Dale is your favorite. That will do it everytime!
Other characters we usually complement them on how nice the park or restaurant and food is, depending on where we're at. If the character is usually part of a couple, we usually ask where the other one is at and what are they doing. The villains are some of the best characters to interact with, just don't be surprised by their behavior; it's all part of the act.

On our trip to Disneyworld in 2000, I asked Chip N Dale if they remembered meeting me in Disneyland in 1968. My five year old was impressed when they shook their heads "yes" and gave me a big hug.

DD always quizzes them about whether they were the one to leave her a surprise in the room.

She will hug then and dance with them. They have fed her.

Telling the characters how much you liked their movie or how how much of a fan you are usually gets a good responce. They also get excitied when they see pictures of themselves, such as on a t-shirt or aurograph book.

Also, asking about experiences the characters have in their movie is also pretty good, such as asking Cinderella how life in the Castle is going or asking Mary Poppins if she can say "supercalafragalisticexpealadocious" backwards. Also, it's good to compliment Cruella or the Queen from Snow White on their outfits. They like that.

My DH is clever. One of my favorite memories is when he started saying "Tick, tock, tick, tock" near Captain Hook. What a chase that became with Hook after Don all over the Train Station area first thing in the am!

My DH decided to tell the Evil Queen from Snow White she was hotter than Cruella. That made Cruella mad and she is standing off the the side of us in the picture. :wave2:

From my experience last November, if you are wearing a birthday button, you will have the characters point at it and clap, that is the best happy bday I got all week, it is the sweetest thing!!

Princess Michelle, I have to tell you this. Every single time I see your signature I laugh out loud. That Tigger is hysterically funny to me. Thanks for the chuckle every time you post! :teeth:

LOL, thanks Jillpie, I'm glad you like him! I think he's pretty cute too. :)

BTW, my line from above, works VERY well on Tigger, he likes to give smoochies... ;)

When we are at Crystal Palace my 13 year old was absolutely mortified when I interacted with the characters so I said - Eeyore don't bother with him he is way too mature and grown up for you. Well of course Eeyore couldn't leave him alone then, and we have a few pictures of Eeyore and my son desperately trying to hold in his laughter and look like he is way too cool.

I asked Cinderella if she really lived happily ever after or if the Prince makes her do dishes and she got really offended and said "of course not" (about the dishes). She then left in a hurry!

Cruella is the most fun! When she said to us at a parade "what are you people smiling about?" I said "not at you" and she stuck her tongue out at me. My kids thought that was hilarious. Also, when we saw her at MGM, my son said "she's mean" and she laughed and said: "This is a good day, darling!"

Pluto at Hollywood and Vine danced around the restaurant with a stuffed Pluto and pretended to steal my kids ice cream. My kids still talk about that and Pluto is their favorite!

The more you interact with them, the better they respond.

I have asked characters some pretty strange questions! One that comes to mind is I asked Dale at Liberty Tree Tavern why his teeth have a gap - did Mom and Pop Chipmunk only get Chip orthodontic treatment, or is Dale missing teeth, or did his teeth just grow that way? Dale just grabbed his mouth and made an "I'm so embarrased!" gestures! Pretty funny to watch him! Guess he is sensitive about his teeth! :teeth:

We also get great reactions when we bring the beanie doll of a character to the parks and show them. The Queen of Hearts was just smitten by hers! So was Jafar, who loved his beanie so much he walked hand in hand with my nephew through Fantasyland! :)

On our trip in October we ate at the LTT. Chip was one of the characters and came over to our table. My DD wasn't doing much eating so I remarked to DD that Chip eats all his veggies. With that, Chip shook his head verrrrrry slowly. He did this so cute that it really came across well which is difficult to do when you don't talk! I then asked Chip straight out if he liked veggies. He again shook his head very slowly. He then pointed out the dessert we had in front of us and rubbed his tummy. So don't expect Chip to help you out with getting the kids to eat their veggies! LOL!
