What type of filter do you use every day?

I only use a filter on my macros... but thats just me...

Why do you think you have to have something on them? The only time I put a protective filter (UV filter) on is when I'm at my track's Team Demolition Derby because there is flying mud everywhere:

Other than that, I simply rely on my lens hood. The lens hood protects the lens and helps to prevent stray light from entering. I do not want another piece of glass in front of my sensor that may degrade my images.

I used to use a UV filter, but don't use it any more. I bought them initially because I didn't know anything and that's what I was told to do.

After reading and seeing others' views on why you're better off without it, I changed my mind and removed them.

I do use a CPL filter at times but obviously that doesn't stay on the lens as it serves a purpose in certain situations and is then removed.

I also use a ND filter for long exposures when I feel the situation calls for it, but again, not something you can leave on the lens.

But if professionals aren't using one, then maybe I just won't worry about it.

With higher resolution cameras and sharper lenses, there are more cons with UV/clear filters than benefits. They would degrade image quality by being less sharp or induce more lens flare. Cheaper filters will show this more, but more expensive quality filters will be less noticeable. Clearly they still have their place, as shown by Gianna'sPapa.
