What type of duvet and cover should I get?

I am unsure of the duvet yet-I heard that you can also just slip your comforter into the duvet cover-is that right?

But as for the duvet cover, I am looking at one that is, a 800 thread count 100% cotton cover.

I do not want anything that is going to be very hot.

Any online recommendations and suggestions?

By nature, a duvet is going to be warm.

A duvet IS a comforter cover, btw. It makes your current comforter last longer by changing the style.

I usually make duvets rather than purchasing them. DD has a Laura Ashley fun fairies patterned duvet.

A couple of good places to look: www.domestications.com and www.target.com. OR, you could go to your local fabric store, purchase material, and make one yourself. It's easy and only requires that you have a sewing machine and can sew a straight line.

Get (or make) what you like the looks of, and just fold down the comforter in the summer if it is too hot. Until recently we had a denim duvet on one of our comforters, and I really liked it. Now I have a really nice Nautica wool blend gray one that I got on clearance at Ross for $12 . However, we only sleep under our comforter in cold months. During hot months we fold it down every night and just sleep under 2 sheets or the sheet and a thin blanket.

If you have pets, make sure you buy a duvet that will not show their fur too badly. This gray wool blend one is great for us, because we have one black cat and one mostly white cat. The denim was good, too. I roll the duvet off pretty often, but the fur doesn't show up much at all because of the color. But having a duvet is great if you have pets, because you can wash it as often as necessary.
