Do you bring the wheeled type to lug around on board before your room is ready, or do you go with something smaller - like a backpack? Thanks!!

How about one of each? I had a 21" "pilot" case with wheels. DH had a laptop case (sans laptop) and DD25 had a backpack. I really liked the pilot case since we came in the night before and it was big enough to keep my overnight stuff and the clothes for the day in it and I didn't need to get in my suitcase at all at the hotel.

It wasn't that big a deal to keep with us and our rooms were ready about 1:30 or 2:00.

Is it really necessary to have clothes for dinner with you? or is that recommendation meant for those who have DCL handle their luggage from the airport? We will be driving to the port ourselves and I don't want to lug any extra stuff around the ship as we are trying to make ressies, eat lunch, etc. As it is we'll have a baby in a stoller with all the things a baby needs for the day

I brought a beach bag type bag with only the necessities that we needed before going to our room. Cameras, swim suits (the kids wore theirs on under clothes), a couple of bottles of wine (since you cannot check those), a magazine, pool stuff, sun block etc. I did not want to be carrying much and we had late dining so I knew that we would have our luggage to our room by the time we needed to get ready for dinner. I have heard that at times the early diners don't always have their bags in time to get ready, but I have to say we always had our bags in time. Last cruise I was unpacking some stuff before the boat drill.

I brought on a backpack with meds and a camera in it...I don't want to have to lug around anything with me prior to getting into our room.

We didn't bring our clothes with us and our luggage was there in plenty of time. If it isn't, DCLs "no shorts requested" becomes null (I'm sure some guests will care, but DCL sure won't). You might want to make sure you wear something to board that if you luggage gets delayed you will feel comfortable in for dinner - besides, they take an embarkation photo.

We had the DVD player (don't check electronics) and a bag with the camera etc. One carryon (a sport sachel) with swimsuits for everyone - next time I'll have the kids wear suits under their clothes. I had too many books - check the books except if I am in the middle of something good - didn't take time to read those first few hours anyway. A few snacks - once you get on board no need for them, but we were at the terminal a little early.

We bring a small wheeled one and a lap top type.

I do not think it is necessary to bring your dinner clothes with you.

We bring meds and water and perhaps one change of clothes, just in case. :bitelip:

This is one area I screwed up last year. Too much carry on stuff!!! I did the clothes thing, and all medicine for every possible ache and pain thing, the laptop thing, crayons and toys for DD7, ad infinitum! We had to find a place for our stuff! We couldn't just roam the ship at leisure. Very annoying start to our cruise.

Not this year! I gave a packing list and I am sticking to it!

We are arriving the night before. Bathing suits, camera, docs (of course), normal meds. Dividing this between two carry ons shoud be easy.

I really hope I can stick to my packing list this year!
