What to wear to Dunn River Falls

I wore a rash guard and board shorts last time without problems. DH and DS wore swim trunks and rash guards. I think the first time I did it I wore a regular bathing suit. The rocks are mostly smooth and slimy.

Get good water shoes!
We wore bathing suits and rash guards.

Out anything you don't want set of damaged in the car or locker, then just wear whatever you are comfortable in that can get wet. Make sure you have shoes that can get wet, but not flip flops or you will watch them float out to sea.

A t-shirt that reads “I visited one of the world’s biggest tourist traps”. :)
I thought that was NIAGARA Falls. :)

I kid. As a Toronto area resident I love going to the Falls.

Anyway, rash guard and aqua shoes definitely recommended.

I 2nd that - no flip flops -:)
its a fun place but IMNO ya gotta focus in on those rocks cuz they are slippery and slimy -

Now I’m second guessing myself for picking it. Do people slip and fall often? DH and I are mid 50s. DD and SiL are plus sized.

Now .... in a kind way , chill out ... no - what I was saying kindly was dummy me was drinking ... didn’t know any better and wore flip flops !

Yes , I got up it ok ... but I could easily tell if ya don’t watch out , you will slip .

No biggie tho - just get back up and imo have fun . The falls are very beautiful....

I hear ya , I lost 49 lbs so far - I’m Down to 255 so I hear ya .

But to me , u will b ok ... just please wear like ex scuba shoes or obviously something better than flip flops like dummy me wore.

I’m 53 and looking forward to seeing Flight of passage, “Back stage tails” tour and Animal kingdom vip after dark tour .... at WDW in October ... google the “backstage tails tour “.... now that has me a little apprehensive but I know with me chilling out , I’ll be fine .

I feel u will 2😎

One piece bathing suit with a swim shirt over top and water shoes. Now I typically wear swim pants or shorts since it's a bit more comfortable but I was fine with the bathing suit and shirt. DH wore bathing trunks and a swim shirt and water shoes.

Footwear is the most important. I have a good pair of Keens and my daughter had a good pair of Columbia water shoes. We both just wore normal swimsuits. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in getting wet. You just want good water shoes so you don't slip. Since I'm old and my feet aren't growing anymore, it was worth the expense to me to get really good ones. I have used them on MANY cruise excursions since.

bring an old pair of tennies and toss them after the day

I wear my dive boots

many visits since 1986

'slimy' ????? I've never found the surfaces slimy .....

There were people of all ages and sizes when we went, and no one seemed to have any trouble. We were there with our young kids and I was a little nervous, but everything was fine. It seemed kind of crazy at first walking fairly quickly through rushing water where you can't see where you're putting your feet. It wasn't until we got very close to the top that some of the rocks felt a little slick. Most of them provided nice grip.

My advice is to try and place yourself near the middle of the group. We were at the front because of the kids, and they try to really keep the front moving so you don't jam up the whole group. I think further back you will have a little more pausing as you wait on those in front to get over and tricky area.

Wear good gripping water sandals like teva or keens, and a swimsuit. Shorts over the swimsuit if you like.

Niagara Falls are magnificent. While I loved getting near them in the boat, the exact spot where the water starts "falling" is so special to me, I'm hypnotized by it.

frankly the reason people get hurt IF they get hurt is the hand holding thing ..... you're better off to go on your own in a small group.

I've been going here since 1986 and no one I know has been injured worse than a skinned knee.

When you go with a cruise excursion they form you into a long line with hand holding and lead you up 'the path'. You climb one time and get herded back to your bus.

But in reality it is FREE to climb the falls one you pay the DAY ADMISSION FEE to the National Park ..... that's right you pay for the entire day . . .

and holding hands and using a guide is NOT required (guides work for tips). It isn't a bad idea for your first time, a guide I mean, but IMO it is the hand holding that gets people hurt. If one falls and they are holding hands, one turns into three or more . . .

We go up the middle without guides and in a typical visit stay 3 hours or so and climb up, down and sideways . . .

see the folks to the left? the 'line' holding hands ... we're going up the middle.

we're chillin in a pool along the way ... see the conga line behind us?

I'm in the bandanna ... 55 at the time.

p.s. by noon the cruise excursions are typically GONE and the place is a lot more fun with no crowds.

I had not really had any interest in them in the event that I was ever on a cruise that went to Falmouth (seriously do not get the appeal of climbing rocks with water coming off of them), but as soon as I heard Scott and family talking about doing it and the hand holding thing where adults had to be partly responsible for kids that were not theirs, that crossed that one off any maybe-if-nothing-else list I might have had. I do not have kids, and while I have no issue being responsible for the kids in my class when I am working, I do NOT want to be responsible for anyone else’s kids when I am on vacation.

I don’t remember it being slippery...but we are pretty fit. I wore a bikini and flip flops and came out unscathed
