Check the weather forecast for that day and decide then. Last year the week before Christmas, jean, a short sleeved polo shirt, and a light fleece jacket worked out perfectly. I wore the jacket around my waist tied from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and then put in on for the rest of the evening. We were there till 1:30 p.m. and I was quite comfortable. We had warmer weather than averages with highs around 73 and lows only going down to 57 or so. It was heavenly, but believe me you can't depend on weather like that. I didn't even pack my parka on this trip, but did bring a heavy sweater and a fleece jacket. I usually look at the extended forecast the day before we fly too and that helps me decide if I want to throw in more than one pair of shorts and/or a winter parka and gloves too. I've had it up to 85 at Christmas as a high (so glad to have the shorts and swim suit), and on a different trip I've had it down to 33 for a low BURRRR -- was so glad to have the parka, ski gloves then, and fleece lined boots) -- yes I looked at the extended forecast the day before I flew down and that meant I was prepared compared to others. Many others were miserable in the park, but not me dressed like Nanook of the North.
Must dos for your suit case. At least one pair of shorts, at least one pair of jeans, a fleece or similar type jacket, a swimsuit (as pools are always heated).
