hello:

we are from PR, so our lowest temp in december could be in the 80's . We don't know what to wear to go to the parks, does it get chilly during the day? I was thinking maybe a sweatpant and a light jacket would be fine but then I keep thinking I might be sweating because of all the walking. I really do not have a clue. Also does it get warm enough to go to BB or TL?, remember we are not used to cold temperatures, but are big fans of the water rides. :thumbsup2

Hi Prgirl,

we've been in January, so similar weather as December. One year was very pleasant, high 70's each day. The kids swam, but we didn't go to any of the water parks. The second time we visited in January, it was much cooler. In fact, the evening we stayed to watch Fanatasmic, the temperature dipped low enough that frost was developing on the seats! I had to purchase a heavy sweatshirt as I didn't have one with me.

You'll probably need a sweatshirt or light jacket in the morning, but we always just tied it around our waists by the afternoon. Probably best to pack for both warmer and cooler weather.

We went mid-December last year. On our arrival day it was high 70s and sunny. Now I'm from MN where winter can get COLD so I was excited to put on shorts and get some sun, (70s in Dec. are AWESOME for Minnesotans!) but it got cooler in the late afternoon as the sun started going down, so if that would be cold to you, I would bring pants and a light jacket. Our Magic Kingdom day was a cooler day. We wore jeans and sweat shirts. Night time was cooler and we were glad we put an extra long sleeved t-shirt under our sweatshirt and brought light gloves. I was actually shivering about midnight when we were waiting for the bus. Plus, our room heat didn't heat up despite us turning it up so it was a cold night! Not sure if the water parks would be a good idea, unless you went late morning, early afternoon during peak sun light hours. Our departure day was warm and sunny...think it was supposed to hit 80 that day. It's so hard to tell because temps can really fluctuate during Dec.

December weather can be a little bit of everything so you need to pack for both warm and cold temps. Mornings can start out chilly so we often have a short sleeve tee under a sweatshirt. As the day warms up, we take off the sweatshirt and are comfy in just the tee but we usually need the sweatshirt back on when the sun sets. Some days, depending on forecasted temps, we just wear long sleeve tees under short sleeve ones and take off and put back on as needed. It may be warm enough you will need only a light jacket at night...or not need it at all.

We also have carried winter coats, gloves, hats, etc. and boy did they feel good a couple of nights. It got cold enough you could see your breath. It can be a tricky time of year with the temps going up and down so just be prepared for warm and cold / coolish temps.

Foxfire is right. December can be shorts and T-shirts one day and winter coat and gloves the next. The closer to the end of the month the cooler the days tend to be. We always pack several pairs of shorts and pants. Since we are coming from a colder climate we always have winter coats, hats, and gloves. I may bring one long sleeved shirt but we're from Pennsylvania so anything above freezing in December is good weather! :rotfl:

you can never be too sure about December as I learned the hard way hahaha...but in my sig is a picture of how we all dressed when we were there in December last year; jeans, tshirt & a sweater or something over it.

We went to WDW last Dec and were glad that we didn't get the water park option. We are from Colorado and were hoping to get some nicer weather in Florida. The first day at WDW was 70s during the day and then it got COLD; 50s and 60s and with humidity felt lot cooler. We found out later that during that week, it was nicer in Denver than in Orlando :confused3 . I should stop complaining, the whole trip was awesome :yay: We had a great time.

It can be cold or warm in December, so be ready for anything, one year when we went, it was SO cold and almost almost hard to have fun, we should have brought warmer clothes  ...

The same thing happened to me last December. I was thinking I'd have a nice warm Christmas but I was so wrong! Most of the week I was freezing from not having warm enough clothes. We had to buy gloves, scarves, and extra jackets. Not too fun when waiting for parades, but then again on Christmas eve it was mid 70s (thank God it was warm at least one day lol). I prefer the August heat. Just be prepared and dont make the packing mistakes (pack a variety) I did to anyone goin in Dec. It's especially cold at night!

We went in December in 2004 and the weather was all over the place. The day we went to the Magic Kingdom was COLD. I mean 28 degrees cold. Luckily we are from the NE and had coats, hats, scarves and gloves with us! While waiting for Spectro I broke out little "hot hands" packs and we stuffed them in our back pockets, jacket pocket and our gloves! lol Then two days later we were at EPCOT wearing capri pants and long sleeved T's...

So we've learned to pack a little of everything.

Oh yes, we've used those, also, and they feel wonderful when it's really cold. We even got the kind you can put in your shoes and pop them in while sitting around waiting for a parade, fireworks, or Illuminations. Having toasty toes sure made the wait go easier!

PRgirl - I think you'll find that your lowest temperature in PR is closer to a highest temperature in Florida. We usually go in December/January, and as others have said, the weather varies from one hour to the next and from one day to the next. On cold Florida days (and I'm from Canada, so let's say it wasn't cold compared to a Canadian winter, but certainly cold by sub-tropical standards) we wore T-shirts, sweatshirts, polar fleece (arctic fleece) jackets and a wind/waterproof lightweight jacket with long pants. While that was sufficient during the day, at night another layer was welcome when we were waiting for Illuminations, for example, and the children were wrapped in lightweight polar fleece blankets. I'm guessing that polar fleece might not be readily available in PR, but it's a wonderful fabric, especially for layering. It's light, warm, and dries quickly. It's not very windproof, though, and that's why we also needed a waterpoof jacket (very light) on top.

Have a great trip!

Last winter I ended up wearing 3 layers of clothing atleast at night and 2 during the day. But just because its december doesnt necessarily mean it will be cold when you are there. It can be 85 one day then 65 the next. Id pack regular winter clothes and if it does end up being to hot you can buy a pair of shorts. Id rather buy something like shorts than have to spend 60 bucks on a heavy jacket.
