What attire is suitable to wear to the parks in August. Want to be comfortable throughout the day

Wear the lightest clothing you have..both in color and fabric. I'm going to go out on a limb and say even if you do, you won't be "comfortable!"

Think Africa hot and dress accordingly. August in the South can be downright miserable. Wear light colors and stay hydrated.

Yes, light clothing and staying hydrated are key! Also think about the comfort level of your clothes...I'd suggest comfy over fashion!

I'm going in August and just bought about 8 ribbed tank tops from Old Navy. They kind of look like men's undershirts but cuter and you can get them in all different colors. They are so comfortable and at two for $12 you can't beat it. I plan on wearing them practically every day!

(I sound like an Old Navy commercial!)

If you're staying for more than a few days, perhaps you can schedule time to do laundry during your trip. We were there last August and went through 2 outfits each day because it was so hot that we showered and changed clothes nearly every afternoon.

Light fabrics, light colors, and shoes (tevas, crocs, etc.) without socks are all a good idea. Bring plenty of sunscreen. Bring sunglasses and a hat, too.

Very light, loose clothing. Like it's been mentioned, light in color as well as fabric. Wear a hat or visor to help with sweat and sun. Drink water constantly. Do not wait until you're thirsty. Take lots of breaks in stores and indoor rides. An example would be Main Street at MK. Instead of walking on the road in the sun, walk in and out through the air-conditioned stores. Every little bit helps.

Water rides will be heavenly, but be sure to wear shorts that are appropriate for this. I'm sure we all know what happens to our thighs walking in wet denim shorts. Ouch!

We always plan a midday break during the hotter months to go back to the hotel and refresh, then head back to the parks once it's cooled off a bit. If you're staying on site, this is very easy! Even if you're off site, this is very doable.

Hope you have a wonderful time & don't get too too hot!

For the ladies out there going in August, I too will be there. I just recently bought these tank tops from Target, they are champion C9 and they are the dry-fit material around ($10). The back of them are all mesh as is the shoulder and the front is the dry-fit that wisk away moisture. I found them to be very cool and comfortable. Also you can't see your bra strap either.

Target also sells the same material shirts for men (around $10) and boys (not quite $10, I think $7 or $8), got both for dh and ds by Champion C9.

They don't make them for girls, not quite sure why, dd would really like them.

You can get similiar shirts by Nike for like $25/30 and Dicks has their own brand, but they still cost more than the C9 shirts at Target.

They make shorts too, but I didn't get those.

We are going down on July 23--I have several light cotton tanks and light kaki shorts--this will be my standard outfit!!!!! My boys have the "wife beater" type tanks and the silky shorts. We are going for comfort not fashion!

As little as possible without running the risk of getting arrested. I'm not a fan of the bikini in the parks thing-but I can sure understand it during the summer. I think tank tops and cargo shorts are a great idea. Try light fabrics that will dry quickly if you go on Kali River or Splash Mountain. (which you WILL want to do in the heat)

I would be careful about footwear though. A lot of people wear flip flops thinking they will be cooler and their feet are killing them by lunchtime. You might want to try something more supportive for your feet, even if it seems like you'll be hotter. I go with running shoes, synthetic socks and LOTS of Gold Bond powder and it keeps my feet feeling good all day.

Be careful with the bikini in the parks...saw a well-endowed woman turned away @ turnstile...she wasn't a happy camper.

Would think she would just have had someone in her party go & buy her a t-shirt, etc.:confused3

Noticed more than a few "developed" pre-teen girls in various parks during June in bikini bathsuits too??? I can see a bs top & shorts but, think it's just asking for trouble to prance around an amusement park (that doesn't have an attached water park) in a bs.

As close to nothing as possible! ;)

Tastefully, of course. ;)

It's really steamy in August - the humidity alone will make you want to take off every stitch of clothing - but since you can't, dress lightly, tanks, shorts, comfortable sandals. Oh, and wear a hat! :)

from the minute I stepped off the plane at the airport until two weeks later when I got back on I wore my sandals! Brought sneakers but never wore them
Lots of tank tops and plan on doing laundry, bringing extra underwear, etc.

I'm worrying about what to wear for TS dinners in August. We're used to being there in the cooler weather & I'm reading posts where women are talking about skirts/outfits for dinner. Will I be a misfit @ dinner in shorts/shirt?

and to "plus" that idea-- wear them with good quality sports bras-- the kind that wick away sweat (CoolMax is the brand name.)

Its not *even* as hot and humid here as in FL, but in August, I'm all over the sports bra/ tank top combo. To make it even more comfy, wear it with some umbro type shorts or a pair of nice hiking shorts that are made with the coolmax. Sometimes that stuff can be a little pricey, but the upside is that I still have Columbia and patagonia hiking clothes made from their fancy fabircs that i bought 10 years ago-- still look cute and I still wear them, especially if its hot and I have to be active (and can't be in a swimsuit.) :teeth:

ALSO-- for when you want to be dressier-- get a long linen skirt-- you can still wear it with a tank top!

at my local SteinMart they have a LOT of skorts this year. I bought a nice black one with the plan of using it for times I need to be a touch dressy but its hot!

I live in the South, and when I dress up in summer time its all about sundresses or long linen skirts. Believe it or not, sometimes the long skirts are actually cooler.
