What to wear for the interview?

Waht to wear for the interview?

  • A business type suit (NOT what I would wear in the classroom)

  • A nice skirt and top (a bit dressier than what I would wear in the classroom)

  • A dress that I would wear daily in the classroom

  • Classic black pants and a blouse/top

I recently posted that I have an interview for a fourth grade, long term (entire school year) sub position this Friday. It is my first interview since graduating and the first interview I have had in a very, very long time.

What do I wear???? I have to actually teach a lesson, so I want to be comfortable and able to move freely. Also, I am in my early 40's and my closet is filled more with "classic" items rather than trendy.

Thanks!
Karen

whenever the word interview is involved i always wear a suit - no matter what. of course, i wouldn't wear something i was uncomfortable in either. do you have a suit that is comfortable? it doesn't need to be a skirt suit -- i wear pant suits to interviews all the time.

Best of luck with your interview...:D

Since you'll also be teaching a lesson you want to be comfortable yet polished. Do you have an outfit that you could cover with a blazer rather than a formal suit? I'm thinking a nice top and pants with a blazer so you look professional when you interview. You can then remove the jacket for the demonstration part of the interview.

I'm with Caity...no matter what the dress code would be once employed, I always go with a suit or a tailored dress. You only have once chance to make a first impression so dress accordingly.

Good luck with your interview!

I am a teacher and I always wear a suit on an interview. Since you are teaching a lesson if you have a pants suit, that would probably be more comfortable. Good luck!!

I would wear the suit. Always look your best and most professional, no matter what position you are applying for and no matter what you will normally wear, if hired for the position.

Also, I would NEVER wear a pantsuit to an interview...

Good luck!

why not fojmo?

maybe that works in florida, but in some places i have lived your legs would freeze if wearing a skirt in the dead of winter -- even with nylons.

my sil is an elementary school teacher. she wore a blue pant suit to an interview last week and got the job.

I agree with the pant suit. I have always learned that it is possible to overdress for an interview. I was taught that you should dress one step above what you would wear normally in that job.

I think the lesson is that one answer does not fit all job interview situations.

I think I should have said that I personally would never wear a pantsuit to an interview. I wasn't, by any means, suggesting that's what everyone should do. It really has nothing to do with being in Florida. I'm from the Northeast and know all too well how cold it gets.

I've been in the workforce for 33 years (I'm only 50) and guess I still remember when women didn't even wear pants to work - LOL.

DonnaS is right about one answer not fitting all interviews -- just depends on the interview, the position, and the individual.
