My husband and I are going to Dapper Day this year :cool1: We have never been to Dapper Day before, but go to Disneyland at least once a year, so this is very exciting for us! Our 9 year old son says he doesn't want to go because, "Disneyland is kind of boring for me" :( So, we're going to take this time to have fun together, as we haven't been to Disneyland alone since we got married, in 2001!

I have no idea what to wear. I have so many ideas, yet none, all at the same time. We don't have many great places to shop for things like that, so most of my shopping will be online. For the people going to Dapper Day, what are you wearing? and for the ones who are not, do you have any suggestions on where to shop online? I've tried Modcloth already, and didn't have much luck there.

Thanks in advance :worship:

I know this store is popular:

And Etsy too!

You will have SO much fun! DH and I are considering doing a no kids trip for Dapper day too. We are still debating. It's so much fun to see everyone dressed up! Have a great time =)

Thanks so much, I'll check it out.

I was so sad that our son didn't want to go, but now, I'm excited to have fun with the hubby. We love getting dressed up, and he is just as excited as me.

Sounds like a fun trip with just the two of you. I am jumping in to ask about shoes for Dapper Day. I have no idea what type of comfortable walking shoes will work with a Dapper Day dress. What has worked for you Dapper Day Dressers?

Don't forget about eBay and Amazon! Dapper Day outfits don't have to be expensive. I've found some cute dresses online at Gap.com (also Old Navy.com and BananaRepublic.com). Use the Modcloth style gallery for ideas, then go shopping elsewhere.

What about for men? Boys?

My husband and I got married in 12/2012 (we got divorced and got remarried, long story) and we had a vintage sort of theme for our attire. We bought his shoes, wingtips, from Urban Outfitters, and ordered his and our sons bow ties, and my sons suspenders from Etsy. I loved my wedding dress, but it's long, so I don't want to wear it to Disney, so I'm having a hard time. I got it from Windsors.

We've found great vintage looking clothes for DH from Land's End, L.L. Bean, Gap, Banana Republic, Target (clearance rack!), Zappos, etsy, eBay, Amazon, etc. Vintage is in fashion right now, so finding menswear items in regular stores isn't as hard as it usually is. Things for boys can be a little tougher, but since vintage is the fashion now, I've found things for myself in the boys department at Nordstrom, online at Land's End, Banana Republic, etsy, etc.

Which period is your dress? If the decade in question is anywhere from the 20's through the 50's/60's, try looking at swing dance clothing sites -- lots of period ideas and outfits from Charleston through big band swing through rockabilly styles.

Its not a specific period, it's just a somewhat vintage looking dress :) I'm thinking now I'm going to lean towards a pencil dress, with a faux fur wrap and some type of hat. I do't want to have to do too much of my hair that morning, so a hat is a easy way out of that :rotfl2:

BTW, I just noticed that I joined in 5/2007, yet this was my first post today lol

So true!!!

It is hard not to find some vintage inspired fashion in every store now... If you know the vintage cuts you're good to go.

I find little boys are pretty easy. News boys caps , suspenders , bow ties and Buster Brown Shoes.

DH wears modern suits, but has them tailored to a vintage style of fit. He also is a fan of 5 buttons vests when it is warm. He has found vintage suspenders on eBay (not the clip on style) . Also French cuffed shirts with cuff links. Tie pins and clips are always fun. He scored a pair of spectators on Amazon for less than 100 bucks. Macy's Mens Trump collection has some great items.

Right now Pinup Girl Clothing is running a 20% off sale and Bettie Page I think is 25%, these stores have great fit on their dresses.

:-)

You'll see lots of flats! I found a really cute, comfortable pair of raw silk Rocket Dogs that I wore and they were sooo comfortable. I'd love to wear heels, like a few girls did, but I think I'd be spending a lot of time on the bench! LOL! I'm wearing my Rocket Dogs again next month, but this time I'm going to make some clip on bows that I can change with each of my outfits, to dress them up. My advice...go for comfort! :)

At September dapper day I wore a pair of platform espadrilles that were actually made by Croc. They don't look like those clunky plastic crocs clogs, though, and the color matched my dress perfectly. They were open toe, sling back, and because they were crocs, they were super comfortable. I wore them from rope drop to park close that day, and it was 102 degrees!
