Hi All

We went in November last year and wore thermal leggings and vests under our clothes aswell as our warm winter coats, we were still cold but it was bearable.

This time we are going a month later on 6th Dec and am wondering whether to go that step further and get some salopettes especially for the kids.

For those who travel at this time of year regularly, is it worth spending that bit more for salopettes for that extra cosyness. It has been 20 years since I last had the pleasure of wearing them and can't remember whether they kept me warm or not.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

Kelly

We are going to go for thermal and layers and have never been too cold (i normally go for thermal leggins, trousers, 2 paid of socks (trainer socks with thermal socks over the top) thermal vest, t-shirt and disney fleece, hat, scarves, gloves) and i find that just right for me. For my DD who has just turned 1 we are planning on going for vest, top, cardi, tights, trousers and then a fleece snow suit, hat, gloves, scarfe and she will be in her cosy toes when not walking and hopefully this will be enough for her, but she will be layed so that we can peel them off when on rides, shops, eating etc. i think if she wasnt going to be in the pushchair then i would probably invest in a decent snowsuit for her. Although we have been in dec a few times and one trip it snowed and another is wasnt that cold so i think layers are the safe option for us, although i will be checking the forcast everyday before we leave just in case!

We are going in DEc (17th) and are all going for layers like Julie. If your kids are old enough to be running around, layers is best I think. it's the extremities that get the coldest, so proper thermal hat, gloves, socks is probably a better investment!

Hi

We are going right at the end of November, my son is 3.5. Decided against the snow suit as too much trouble to get it off and on.

Bought him a really cosy jacket, tights (the ones that are supposed to respond to temperature??), thermal vest, long sleeved top, t-shirt, jumper or fleece. tights, thick socks, thick trousers and boots. Furry ear covering hat and gloves (will need to be freezing to get him to keep them on).

Layers are always good just in case weather better than we think.

I went to Paris at the start of January years ago and it was so cold my face hurt, here's hoping that was unusual....

Looks like it's thermals and layers then. Thats what we wore last year early in November, I think we were luck with the weather sunny days and no rain. Fingers crossed it's like that again.

Thanks for the advice.

We have been to DLRP in December, and the best decision we made was to buy some cheap waterproof hiking boots for £15-£20 (going above the ankle), rather than wearing shoes or trainers. The weather was freezing, but there was also rain and puddles everywhere. We saw so many people with wet trousers below their knees, and they looked absolutely miserable. We had our trousers tucked into our boots, and our feet were proper toasty :goodvibes

I've been several times in December and it can get VERY cold. Wrap up warm but wear layers so you can easily adjust when in shops or indoor attractions. A waterproof jacket is a must. Also, some areas, Adventureland in particular, can become slippery with ice so shoes with adequate grippage with help stop grazed knees etc. Hope you have fun! :cool1:

We went in December last year and even though we wore layers we were still freezing.

This year I've bought us all thermals, so we will be wearing thermals, trousers/top, hoody/jumper, coat, scarf and gloves. Footwear wise will be boots and my youngest will have a cozytoes on his pushchair which is like a sleeping bag lol :rotfl:

Hopefully we will be warmer this year!

We went shopping tonight for our layers! Feels like we bought half of Primark :rotfl: we've got wooly tights, thermal socks, festive jumpers, thermal t shirts with long sleeves, gloves, hats, earmuffs, parkas, and all in one pjs!
Think the Primark staff probably thought we were emigrating to Greenland or something. But it's very exciting to feel that I have everything I need now...how soon is too soon to start packing?!

Christmas-chic is all the rage at Primark, we were delighted! I've got a wooly jumper, black with white snowflakes!
My sister has opted for the "Last Christmas" look a la 80s Wham - red puffa jacket and red woolen headband.
And my mum got a long red coat, and white fluffy scarf.
Of course, being Primark it was all a bargain as well, you can get all Christmassed up without spending too much. The festive jumper selection is excellent you'll be spoilt for choice :rotfl: they range from £11 to £20

I am such a sucker for anything festive - guess where I'll be heading this weekend?!! I already have 1 red coat, but in my opinion, you can never have enough coats!!!

Ooh you're so gonna love the jumpers then! And red scarves/gloves/earmuff sets with white snowflakes on as well. Wait til you see the photos from our DLP trip in a few weeks its gonna look like the Mariah Carey video for "all i want for christmas" :cool1::santa::santa: all we need now is some santa hats!
I've also got a mulled wine candle on just now... couldn't help it, only £1 in Asda....

OMG I have to get that set!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got the mulled wine & crackling fire candles & air fresheners this week - Christmas in a can!

DD was asking for a Santa hat the other day!! :santa: (Not that she's been brainwashed from birth or anything...) So excited today as I found out our church is having Carols by candlelight on Christmas Eve at 6pm which DD will be able to stay awake for, what better start to Christmas?!!

Thanks for all the tips on here - off to Primark this afternoon to stock up on winter woolies!

Was in Aldi yesterday and they have thermal sets (long Johns and long sleeved tops) Adults for £8.99 and childrens for £4.99. How does that compare with Primarks prices?

That's better than Primark for thermals, it was £6 or £8 for individual items in Primark! Hmm maybe getting another set from Aldi wouldn't go amiss since we're away for 6 days, my mum basically lives in Aldi so I'm sure she can pick some up for me. Thanks for letting us know :goodvibes

I'll go back and get some then:goodvibes They were in sizes 8-10, 12-14, 16-18 and in pink or cream.

I stocked up on merino wool thermals, fleecy jumpers, wooly tights, wooly socks, gore tex boots and down parkas and scaloppetes for kids.

My DDs want to wear their princess dresses. I don't know if I should pack them at all, as we don't plan Auberge this time.:confused3

We went in December 2009 and it was lovely and sunny but -7 !!! brrrr !!!! we were freezing. We are going again on 11th December, this time we have all-in-one snowsuits (waterproof too) for the children 4 & 5. I have salopettes. Hubby is going for layers! We all have snowboots as the bottom part is waterproof and they are warm and grippy. We guessed this would be the easiest way to stay warm and dry whatever the weather ???? The snowsuits can be easily peeled off when indoors with normal clothes underneath.
Sooooooooooooooooooooooo excitied!!! :woohoo:
