What to wear at Victoria and Albert's?

Do I wear a cocktail dress or evening gown? Does DH wear a suit or tux? Anyone have pics of what they wore?

Either outfit would be fine, I saw people wearing both when we were there. On our last visit, I wore a black cocktail dress and heels, and DH wore a dark suit and a dress shirt (no tie).

My Husband wore a suit when we went. He looked perfect, not over dressed, but not too casual. I wore a black linen dress with a light sweater, and I felt a little under dressed, most women were in cocktail or evening dresses. This year when we go my husband will wear the suit (poor guy, it will be hot in August) and I am going to wear a slack cocktail dress (very simple, but a little dressy).

I think a tux would be a bit much. An evening gown could work, but I would try to dress it down a little.

Here are a few pictures; in both of them I'm actually wearing a dress from White House Black Market - their dressier creations.

Here we are with the chef; you can only see the neck of this dress, but it is pretty much straight, with lace along the bottom, approximately mid-calf length.

This is us after dinner, so my husband has removed his jacket, but you get the general idea.
