On our last trip, we had our two kids and we carried a backpack, but we didn't use half the stuff we had taken.

For adults only in January, is it necessary to carry a backpack?

I always go adults only. The biggest bag I carry is the WDW fanny pack, and that's only on the last 2 days when nothing can be shipped back to the resort. Most days I just carry the Bagalini wallet on a string and it works perfectly. When it's the fall and I'm always freezing, I just wear the sweatshirt around my waist most days.

Though in my normal life I am a humungo pack rat, guess it's just my vacation from the large daily bag.

We never take a backpack. My DH will wear cargo shorts/pants w/tons of pockets, or I have one of those little wallet things on a lanyard that I use. If you set your room key up for charging you don't need to carry much cash - just your ID, room key and a few $$ just in case.

If you don't have the backpack or fanny pack you can skip the security searches when going into the parks - which can be a big time saver some days.

Two adults here and we always carry a backpack. But that is because we have the camcorder, digital camera, notebook for writing TR notes, hand sanitizer and a lot of other stuff. :rotfl:

I only take a very small 'wallet' that holds my ticket/room key and a little bit of money. If need be, I'll take a bottle of water. Like to travel lite, less to worry about.

Thanks for the replies. :goodvibes

I just remember what a hassle it was with the backpack, and I'm hoping to avoid that this time.

I'm thinking we probably won't need one...I'll just carry my small wallet and my cell.

:thumbsup2

I took an over the shoulder bag slightly smaller than a backpack. We kept our tickets, camera, a snack, water & a couple of small fans in there. It was also a great place to put any small souvenirs you bought along the way.

It is always just dh and myself. We both carry/wear fanny bags. It is so easy. In my bag I have my ticket, wallet, ponchos (don't like to get wet), hand wash, bandaids, lip gloss and 3X5 cards with the itenery and conformation numbers on them. My dh carries in his a wallet, his ticket, umbrella, two camping towels if we do get wet or need to sit on something, poncho, sun screen and our sunglasses. It works out great.
Also we both have (much to my dh's dismay) LGMH's on the outside of the bags. LOL

I carry a comfortable purse with my money/tickets etc and my camera - and I make my husband carry the backpack with our ponchos and batteries. ;)

I'm happy with a mini-backpack. I thought about ditching it next time, but realized that sometimes I really do need it - like when I want to shove leftovers in there, or take off my glasses to ride a rollercoaster. It's never gotten in the way and I'd rather carry a nearly-empty backpack than have my pockets full of junk.

For us a fanny pack carries more than enough.

Occasionally we'll carry a small pack for rain coats if there is a good chance of rain (that's after years of having to buy them during a rain storm and yes we own about a dozen)

We carry a backpack, the size varies due to time of year. January requires layers and it's easier to stuff them in the pack when you're not wearing them. Ponchos, visors, glasses, we both wear prescription glasses, so changing to sunglasses requires storage of other pair. A variety of over the count medicines. Nothing worse than a headache or sinus attack making you miserable in the park when a pill would solve the problem. Sunscreen! Someplace to put pins that you don't want to trade. And I don't carry a purse, so a few toiletries & hair pick are in there. This way either of us can carry it with no problem.

I carry a Disney sling type back pack - room for everything & anything. DH & I switch off carrying it through the park. I'm always afraid that I'll leave something behind that I'll need, plus I want room to tuck souveniers, etc inside instead of holding all the bags. I've tried taking just a purse, but always end up buying something in the park to hold it all.
