What to serve with ham for a crowd?

I'm having about 20 people for a birthday lunch and I've decided to serve a ham. I'm not sure yet if I want to serve it hot or cold for sandwiches. What else should I serve as a buffet style meal? I want things that don't have to stay piping hot and I need at least a few vegan dishes. I feel like I could end up spending an awful lot of money trying to please everyone's preferences. I have the whole range of ages as guests. Thank you for any ideas.

Ham is my favorite crowd meal. If you serve it hot, I would do a really good Mac & Cheese, green beans or a green bean casserole, maybe a sweet potato dish that could be done vegan? Rolls and a dessert.

If you do cold and sandwiches, a pasta salad or potato salad and fruit salad, pickles, chips, cookies - I like this plan as you can do it all ahead of time if that is important.

Baked sweet potatoes. If they're cooked in foil and left wrapped they stay hot for a long time and they go very well with ham.

We always do a veggie tray with a couple of dips for casual entertaining. It is popular with all ages, not expensive to put together, and doesn't need to be kept warm. And if you use hummus for one of the dips it is vegan-friendly too.

If you serve it hot, you could go with cheesy potatoes, green bean casserole, another veggie like corn, and dinner rolls.

If you serve it cold, I agree with PP, potato salad, pasta salad, fruit salad, chips, pickles and good buns for sandwiches.

applesauce! I agree with the above posters but I'd defiantly add applesauce to the menu whether you decide to serve it hot or cold.

I always serve homemade potato salad with ham...there would be an uprising at my house if I didn't. A green salad, pasta sald, or 3-bean salad if you serve the ham cold. If you serve it hot, green peas, cooked carrots, green beans, and of course, potato salad go well with it.

A good hearty pasta salad can be a very filling vegan option plus can be made in a day in advance. I love creamed new potatoes with fresh English peas or asparagus with ham. Another safe option is a fresh fruit salad.

Not a ham fan but love the scalloped potatoes on the side. Not very vegan though. Maybe a pasta salad? Deviled eggs are good too but not vegan.

My vote is for scalloped potatoes if it is hot.

If cold, I would go with potato and/or pasta salad and some rolls.

For a hot meal, I would do au gratin potatoes. If you serve a cold meal, definitely do potato and/or macaroni salad. :)

At our house, it would be scalloped potatoes and any sort of green vegetable. Even if the ham is served cold.

We always have the cream cheese mashed from epcot and mac and cheese I feel like the mac and cheese can fill people up if they don't like ham.

I agree with a huge garden salad. Its not only vegan, but another option for those with food "allergies" such as wheat. I dont know your guests but its so hard for people with allergies to eat at parties! Garden salad is usually pretty safe bet for all! (You can even have a bit of a "salad" bar- lettuce and multiple toppings, some vegan, some not- including potato and pasta salads, etc). This would allow people to have a mix of what they can and cannot eat- and its pretty cheap!)

* Mixed rolls
* big green salad with options on the side (dried cranberries, nuts or seeds, cheese like feta, goat or gorganzola, croutons, various dressings)
* potato dish of some sort -- mashed potatoes (you could keep warm in the oven until time to eat), potato salad, potatoes au gratin, sweet potatoes, etc.
* oven-roasted green beans or steamed or grilled asparagus
* fruit salad
