What to request at SSR?

We'll be checking into a studio at our home resort, SSR, for the first time on July 31st. I'm looking at a map of the resort, and trying to figure out which section I want to put on my request. I can't decide between The Springs and Congress Park. (The Paddock just looks to be in the middle of nowhere, so I've ruled that out.)

I really don't have a preference between the main pool and the smaller pools. Transportation times, room quality, noise, and walking distances to meals are what's important.

We'll be doing breakfast at Artist's Pallet a few days, and several meals at Downtown Disney. That has me split between The Springs and Congress Park.

My first inclination is to ask for The Springs, which seems to be in the middle of everything. Am I correct in thinking these are the original Disney Institute rooms, though? I know they've been refurbished, but are they as nice as the new construction rooms? Also, does being in the middle of everything mean the rooms are noisy at all?

Thanks for your thoughts.

all of the villas at SSR are new construction :). you'll want to check over on the dvc forum, there is tons of info there on SSR .

the Springs are closest to the feature pool, Artist Palette, laundry, bike rental, lobby etc., at Congress Park you'll have a shot at a DTD view. neither will be noisy...i can pretty much guarantee any room at SSR will be quiet.

we own at BWV but stayed at SSR in may '05, it was very nice. have a great time!

I thought the same thing.

2 Bdrm in paddock 6400 area. It's right in the middle of everything ( I mean middle as not close to anything.) I was hot when when they gave me that room on a Sun morning early only to find later a lady on Cash going on how she checked in 3 hours later and ended up with Spings.

I didn't show my disappointment but man this was not what I wanted for a first trip home taking my DM and DsF with us.

Well it's not that bad DsF walked to the pool everyday as he is not a real park person.

It's just such a nice place to walk around a bit wildlife everywhere .

Now at the end of the week with all EMH 's being hit DD and myself were starting to feel it a bit so we would drive up to the bus stop so the van would be there when we got back.

I had your same quandry when we went "home" for the first time in March this year. We were given our pick of rooms when we checked in, and after getting the CM's opinion, we opted for a studio in CP overlooking DTD. We were in a first floor unit pretty much directly across the water from La Nouba, so we were at the end of CP closest to the general services of the resort. We loved this location! It took us just a little more than 5 minutes to walk from our villa to AP, the main pool, etc., and we also walked to DTD one day. In my opinion, the views and the convenience of this spot can't be beat. We truly love SSR - much, much more than we were even expecting to (and we felt we would definitely enjoy it when we bought there).

Sorry this had to be moved. I really did try to find the right place. I thought I had it right when I read this in the FAQ:

DVC Resorts, General Questions & Cash Reservations – Resorts Board
DVC Resorts, [anything dealing with] Points Reservations – DVC Planning Board

Still learning my way around the forum.

No problem.

Try looking at this Sticky Post which is at the top of each of the DVC boards. That should help.

And BTW, Welcome Home!
And welcome to the DISboards.

Maybe you could just request a pool view and say either CP or Springs, since you don't mind which pool it is? Bus stops are pretty close no matter where you are, so transportation shouldn't be a problem in any area (even Paddocks has conveniently placed bus stops and there's an internal shuttle that comes around pretty frequently). We were in the CP building closest to the main areas and really enjoyed it; nice little pleasant walks to the Springs Pool area, DTD, and the bus stop, so lots of options.
