What to pack for DVC stays?

When we stay in a 1 bedroom unit I usually make pizza. I bring a pizza cutter and like someone else previously mentioned, a pair of scissors.

We always pack laundry supplies and extra tablets for the dishwasher - you get a couple but we travel as a family of 7, so we can run the dishwasher daily quite easily. Clorox wipes too, for quick cleaning after we make a meal and for giving the touch surfaces a disinfecting - light switches, door handles, because I've gotten sick too many times down there. And I do keep a basic medicine kit with our favorite cold medicines, allergy meds, antibiotic cream, anti-itch lotion and all sorts of bandages.

We would be in a studio - microwave meals and breakfast in our room.
So I think extra paper plates, utensils and garbage bags are a great idea.
Now to search the web on making microwave meals ;)

In all villas, housekeeping will provide you (free of charge) with paper towels, dish washing and dishwasher detergent (1 BR and larger), toilet paper, dish sponge, and in studios, paper plates, paper bowls, and plastic silverware. You do not need to bring those. Just call housekeeping if and when you need more.

These are AWESOME! And I never would have thought of chip clips. Really need to check out an OL. Really helpful ideas.
I don't bring chip clips per se - I bring clothes pins - they're a little more multi purpose as they can be used as chip clips and keep drapes together and hold wet clothes on a hanger and etc...I also bring an over the door set of hooks for the bathroom towels - usually DVC has 1 bar and a small hook on the bathroom door to hold towels - and the hook on the dpor is too far away from the shower to be of any use - so I bring my own to use on the shower door.

Scissors, PIZZA CUTTER, sanitizing wipes, dishwasher tablets. These are all good easy to pack. I don't know why I thought you were charged for extra paper towels and paper plates if you asked for them. Good to know it is available free of charge.

If you are going to stay in a studio for a long period of time, especially since you are driving and don't have to worry about TSA at the airport, I would bring my things I usually have for breakfast. I'm an egg person, DH is a cereal or oatmeal type of guy. There are all kinds of "egg cooking" things at the Dollar store for use in the microwave. If you want oatmeal, bring along a large soup type mug to make instant oatmeal in. Studios have a toaster, too, so bring your English Muffins. Don't forget your butter too. If you are staying in a studio and have too much stuff for the fridge, gently place your cooler in the tub (on top of a towel so you don't scratch the tub). When you need the shower, just move the cooler into another area (again on top of a towel in case of leakage). Every studio or one bedroom I've stayed in always has a roll of paper towels in the holder and at least one under the counter; same for TP. Not sure about paper plates though....we usually stay in a studio for one night and then switch over to a one bedroom. You will be charged if you ask for MORE shampoo or coffee or dishsoap BEFORE your scheduled trash and towel day. We will always leave a note on the kitchen countertop if we need more dishwasher stuff and coffee....and another in the bathrooms for shampoo. With all of the "environmental" things Disney seems so proud of, I've discovered that if you have partially used anything....soap, laundry detergent, dish soap, dishwasher liquid, etc.....they don't seem to replenish. So....put away your half-used stuff, and leave notes for new stuff. The funny part of that is....when you bring your stuff to the trash and recycle room....there is NOT a bin for glass!!! Wait...did you not know about the trash and recycle room? DVC rooms don't get daily room cleaning...so when your trash and recycle bins get too full and won't make it until trash and towel day, follow the signs in the hall for the trash/recycle room. When you pull out the plastic can liner, there should be a supply underneath....just pull apart your trash bag and adjust the new one over the pail.

If you run out of anything, since you have your own car, you can run out to Publix or Winn Dixie....or it you are staying at BoardWalk or BeachClub, the Speedway gas station across from BoardWalk keeps a good supply of basic foodstuffs and beer and wine. And plenty of places to eat off-site too.

Have fun! And Welcome to the DVC!

Thanks for all of these details. Learning so much with each post.

I second the wine opener (the one furnished is pathetic) and the chips clips, all those goofy candies you buy don't have resealable bags, so smaller clips too. In addtion to coffee, favorite tea bags and coffee creamer.

BTW, if you drink wine and are staying in a studio call housekeeping as soon as you get into the room for wine glasses. The 1BRs have them but the studios do not.

Skip bringing the paper plates, bowls, plasticware and paper towels and dish soap as you can always call housekeeping for more when you are running low.

We bring extra wash cloths, as you only get four and have four days before your trash and towel day.

If you are going in the summer bring a couple extra sets of clothes and expect to do laundry so bring detergent. It is so hot and humid that you return to the room and shower more than you would normally and who wants to wear those sopping wet clothes before they are laundered?

Anyone ever bring a crock pot or is that too much or not allowed? In the 1-2 BDR they have kitchens so it should be allowed. We do alot of crock pot meals. But would guess there is not enough space in the studio for one.

There is enough space, at least at the studios that I have been in.

I take my own toaster, because I have celiac and can't toast anything in a used toaster. And I take an electric kettle, so I can make tea.

I don't leave either of those plugged in, while I am away from the room. I wouldn't chance leaving a crock pot plugged in.

Ok. Thanks.

Much of the contents of my DVC bag are listed in earlier posts - great minds think alike! I will add a nightlight for the bathroom, we bring a small rug for the bathroom since the one mat is small and gets dirty and the tile floor can be chilly. pop up hamper, safety pins, bag of coffee, fruit (can't pay $1.50 for a piece of fruit!), flip flops for the resort, bluetooth speaker. dryer sheets (for drawers and luggage as well as laundry).

We are new owners and will be having our first stay in December (1 bdrm, AKL-Jambo). We have an 11 year old with special needs, and a baby that will be almost a year old, so having the laundry is crucial for us. I'm seeing some conflicting stuff on the detergent. Some people say to bring your own, because the room is not stocked with much, but others say you can detergent free from housekeeping. Does anyone know a defenitive answer?

We are local and always drive.
DW usually makes a one pot meal:
Stew
Soup
Lasagna
As we usually stay in studios, these work out great for reheating in the microwave. We sometimes will eat breakfast out and then depending on what we are doing that day either lunch or dinner in the room every day.
For breakfast we have a Mickey Waffle Maker that we bring with us.
