I have two neighbors who always bring our family Christmas gifts. I am stumped as to what to give them. Any suggestions? I'd like to keep the cost between $15 & $20.

If you have kids, you could do a craft, like an ornament they made. YOu could make a mix of homemade cookies, biscotti and hot cocoa mix.

This year we decided to do a nice dinner with our neighbors instead of gifts. We agreed it was better to hang out over good food than to swap gift certificates to resturants (that's what we had been doing).

That's a lot! We are good friends with our neighbors, and they are getting cookies! We'll get the kids a small toy each.

How about a gift card of some sort for dessert... Sweets For Sweet Neighbors!

I give my best neighbor beer, preferably from Canada. In return he snow blows our driveway when we get deep snow. That is why he is our "best" neighbor.

I give the best neighbor's wife the wine that is sent to us from companies that do business with my husband. Usually a good bottle or two every year. She knows to expect it around New Years.

The other side always gets a dog toy from our cats. Sometimes a plate of cookies too, depends if I am baking at the time.

Our across the street neighbors "the Greeks" make us a bottle of wine. That bottle is promptly poured down the drain. A thank you note along with a cake is always sent. [It took us like 3 years to learn their names; and for years we called them "the Greeks" when talking amongst ourselves.] They are very nice and we watch their house for 3 months every summer while they are in Greece, we only pour out the wine because it is Bad; we really like them, just not their wine. (Even our other neighbor, who just about drinks anything tosses her bottle).

We are lucky we have 3 good sets of neighbors.

I have amazing neighbors and this year they are getting as a thank you, some cute pot holders my mom is making along with a make your own sugar cookie kit. All three have grandkids they watch on a regular basis and love getting things that they can do together.

What kinds of gifts do they usually give you? That might be a good starting point.

Some quick ideas...
- a set of the pinecones that you can toss in the fireplace and they make pretty colors
- a plate of cookies
- a small food basket - cocoa mix, tea, treats, etc.
- a bottle of wine
- an ornament for their tree
- a couple of holiday dishtowels with a nice kitchen utensil (or cookie cutters)
- a potted plant (be careful if they have pets)

How about ornament for the tree. Lenox or some other will cost you about $150-$20.

I have great neighbors and we just exchange sweets for Christmas. We watch out and take care of each other.

My latest go to gift is a food basket of some sort--

my favorite is a breakfast basket with some pancake mix (like from Cracker Barrel), nice bottle of real syrup, some jam and coffee. Throw on a pancake flipper if you want.

Movie basket: popcorn, some movie size boxes of candy, gc for a movie place of some sort.

Cookie basket: Cookie mix, maybe some hot chocolate mix, frosting, a variety of sprinkles and decorating sugars

Italian: Pasta, gourmet bottled sauce, garlic bread spread, pasta server

I live in a great neighborhood. People here think a 30 box a Coors Light is the ultimate Christmas gift. There are three neighbors we are friendly with. One has two children and sometimes plows the road for us. He gets beer and we buy something nice for the kids since we know money is tight.

Another neighbor does the road plowing the rest of the time. He gets a 30 pack and no money since he would be insulted if he thought we were trying to pay him for plowing.

The last set of neighbors are weekend people but they are old friends of ours. They get a nice bottle of wine, a restaurant gift card, something cute for their cabin, etc. I know them much better so it is easier to find something that they will actually like.
