Help! I don't know what to get my 2 year old for Christmas. I have another daughter who is 7 so I feel like she has something similar to everything I look at. I figure its a good age where I don't have to spend alot but I do want her to have stuff to open. I can't even think of practical gifts at this point. Plus my older daughter will question why Santa didn't give her little sister anything. So she has to have something new to open. She just got clothes for her birthday plus she has her older sister's clothes too. Anyone have any ideas? Plus I'm sure family will be asking me what to get her!

Thanks!

Give her the sunday flyers and look through them with her. See what catches her interest. OR, take her to the toy store to see what she might like that you dont already have.

I am having the same problem with my girls. We tend to expand the collection of things that we already have. DD 4 had the Loving Family house, DD 1 plays with it, she will get some accessories for that. Same with Snap and Style dolls, new play food for the kitchen we already have.

I did take DD 1 to the store to see what she would like, and surprisingly all she kept saying was 'BARBIE' on top of her lungs. Guess that will be on her list. :)

Maybe some art supplies they can enjoy together, books, her first own doll, new pj's???

Santa brought a huge card board house and art supplies when the kids were little. That was a huge hit (Michaels sells them)

We usually added on to collections when the girls were small....

Does she have a bitty baby from American girl:confused3

My son was crazy about those Pillow Pets last year. It seems like they are going to be big this year too. At two, she is around the right age for the Leapfrog Tag Jr. We have the regular Tag, and he loves it, so do I.. it buys me at least 30 min of peace and quiet!!! Other than that, anything with her name Monogrammed on it.. that makes it special, and only hers.

Her own doll? DD got a Bitty Baby for her 2nd birthday and by 2.5 she was totally into playing dolls.

When my youngest was 2 for Christmas (her b-day is March), I got her the Loving Family Dollhouse.

That is all she got. I wrapped each room separately so she had the same amount of gifts that my other 2 had.

She didn't need anything as we have a ton of toys (she is 4 now). The best part was that she didn't have a ton of toys for different games/etc...that she wouldn't play laying around.

Other things (I am thinking on the cheaper side for these)-

Lucky Ducks
Hullabaloo
Playdoh
Memory
Brush/comb/barretts/toothbrush/paste
Bubbles
Tub toys
The mats that you 'color' on with water (can't remember their name)
A tunnel or some kind of pop up tent
Paint or a paint your own something or another
New board books
Elfun (we are on our second one since the first one was played so much it broke)

My kids were all so different that we didn't really have that problem much. We did do what others suggested and added on to some things we already had, like an additional Little People set or more Geotrax. We would also replenish art supplies, things like more fingerpaint and paper, play-doh, new markers and crayons, painting sponges, etc. Some other suggestions would be:

hooded bath towel
new blanket/throw
pillow pet
bubble bath (one of the cute character sets they always come out with at Christmas)
dress-up clothes, maybe her own tutu (see family board for thread on making your own)
Crayola Wonder has a new stamp set out that looks cute
her own purse
dvd of a preschool show she likes

I'm having the exact same issue. My daughters will be 5 and 18mos for Christmas this year.

I've tried to get them "parallel" gifts. So far, I've gotten them both the following:

  • Pillow Pets (the younger daughter freaked out in the store wanting one)
  • Matching Disney PJs (got 3 matching nightgowns for both of them in sizes 2 and 5-6)
  • Tadoodles for the youngest and Pipsqueak markers for the older one
  • Days of the Week underwear (stocking) - for potty training
  • Scooter boards with paddles-may sound strange, but my older DD wanted one. Here it is: http://www.amazon.com/Gamecraft-Saf...&s=toys-and-games&qid=1287585979&sr=1-1-spell

I also got them plush Disney stuffed animals. My older daughter is easier to shop for...I've found tons of Leapster games, movies, dolls, etc. The younger daughter is a challenge. I've also gotten her some tub toys, a fill and spill purse, and a Stella doll and accessories.

Hope that helps!

I am fighting the same battle with my boys. Ds2 doesn't need anything because my oldest had it already. The house is overflowing with toys. I recently had a yard sale and donated things they don't use just to make room for the new stuff they would be getting for the holidays. The youngest wants what the older child has (of course.) Do you have play kitchen? What about new accessories for it?

I find that, despite best efforts, the second child is missing one thing the older child had overflowing amounts of---individual attention.

For a two year old, I would suggest something like a Mommy and me dance class or gymnastics class (get a fancy new leotard to open), tickets to a special show for her and a parent (Disney Princesses on Ice or similar), a special "date" day with all stuff she loves (Children's Museum, movie, swimming, making cupcakes, adopt a dolly, whatever). Anything to spend some one on one time with her.

For some tangible gifts that you likely don't have:
Cranium Cariboo (best. game. ever.)
Bilibo (cool bowl shaped seat toy that can be used in a million ways)
I Spy or Pictureka game (My 2 year old loves to hunt and find things)
A felt board (with letters, numbers, shapes, storybook characters)
Dress up clothes (especially career oriented sets if you have mostly pink sparkly stuff now)
Hot Wheels and some sort of ramp (Like the Little People or Plan Toys Garage)
A Strider bike and helmet (pedal-less bike that teaches balance--they are awesome! and can be used for several years)
musical instruments (recorder? harmonica? bongos? rhythm frog?)
River Stone set from American Educational (greatest way to cross a living room full of hot lava or alligators)

My daughter is having the same problem, although it's regarding a 1-year old daughter who enjoys and plays with all the preschool toys that her 3-year old brother has. The obvious is to get her a first doll and dolly things, including a doll stroller she can push around. Then there are the inexpensive "disappearing milk" bottles, extra sleeper, and diaper bag to play with. Books and blocks are great, in fact I'm adding some of the Haba blocks that are more pastel that my dgs didn't get to add to the sets he has. I love the tutu idea and dress-up clothes in general.---Kathy

It could be worse - you could be me. It's almost impossible to find stuff for dd7 and ds7. We have every board game, ds game, wii game, sporting equipment, etc. Our toy closets, although they've been emptied, are still full. I can't wait until they realize there is no santa, and I can start giving the gift of vacation! It will be a few more years until they're satisfied with a future trip instead of a pile of stuff.

I like the monogram idea, thanks

Thanks everyone! We do have alot of the stuff mentioned due to the fact they are my parents only grandchildren but other things we didn't. I made a list and I'm going to see if I can find some of it. Also the Disney store is opening in my mall on Monday (its been gone for a few years now). Its supposed to be one of the cool new ones so I'm hoping to find something in there too!

Do they have a bunny pillow pet does anyone know? She loves bunnies.

Thanks again it really helped!
